The ‘X-Men’ Universe / Franchise

The mutants having to do a full PR campaign to convince people they are "normal" while their land gets hit with an unprovoked terrorist attack. Rogue's discovering that intimacy is more than just the ability to touch. The use of the Ace of Base song as foreshadowing. Magnito's final words to Leech. Rogue's closing words to Gambit. This whole episode was a masterclass in storytelling. There wasn't a single wasted frame.

I genuinely gagged when Magnito said so many countries allow their world leaders to be war criminals. He clocked her tea. I love that this show isn't afraid to go there.

There is so much insane soap opera melodrama going on yet somehow they manage to keep the show grounded. The love triangle between Scott, Jean, and Madelyne should be ridiculous but they managed to make it complex and compelling.

Beau Demayo just gets it (he also has a small cameo at the gala event). Of course you’d put an AOB song in a dance scene set in the ‘90s.
I was reading on X that he got fired from the production. Was this his last episode? Also, why did he get fired? He is clearly a phenomenal writer and the show benefits from having him.

I have no idea what happened re: Mr. Demayo, but as someone who has worked in Hollywood for over 20 years...it's quite vexing that of all the "massive nightmares" in this town, they fire a queer Black one...especially one whose output has met unanimous fan/critical acclaim.

He could quite possibly be an actual nightmare to work with, but...I can't imagine him being worse than a lot of (straight white) folks who haven't been fired/continuously given more work.

If he has been a problem then it’s only right to get rid of him. Talented or not and regardless of his sexuality or skin colour.

It would be justified, certainly. But I was pointing out the double standard wherein lots of straight white writers/directors/producers do NOT get fired despite also being unprofessional/"a problem"/downright vile (and some of those are also, coincidentally, quite untalented).

(I'm reminded of queer Latina Victoria Alonso being scapegoated for Marvel's VFX problems...I'm sure she wasn't a walk in the park to deal with, but I'm sure she's had life experiences that made her a tough cookie, and I don't think the story we saw was the complete and unblemished truth of that situation).

Obviously this is a different situation – Demayo wasn't publicly scapegoated, but rather quietly dismissed (which is, I concede, a sign that there might be worse fire from whence that smoke came). I'm not saying Demayo shouldn't have been let go, just that it's a shame the situation happened at all. Of all the recent creatives, I would have hoped he would have been one to succeed.

There seems to have been other reasons for his removal too.

I assume you're referring to the OnlyFans of it all, and I while again that is certainly something I can understand Disney balking at, I also don't think it's a huge or unjustified leap to say that if he had not been queer, there would be a higher likelihood that they would have brushed it under the rug rather than letting him go. Unfortunately, there's something considered more salacious about a queer creative (especially of a "children's show") having a separate, sexual life. It shouldn't be, but sadly it still is (assuming he kept it all professional...).

We don't know exactly what caused his termination. Could be one of those things, could be both of them. Could be something else entirely. Just a shame that someone who clearly understands this project so well, and is a marginalized voice, could no longer be in the position to keep running the show. I sincerely hope there was an "above board" reason for his termination, but given the aforementioned double standards, who knows if there actually was (or, if the extent of the speculated behavior rose to the levels of termination). We'll likely never know.

They wouldn’t fire him for no reason. Let’s be honest now. If they had no reason then why get rid of someone who so clearly understands the job and excels at it? Disney is all about making money and this series is doing that.
Yes I’m sure there are others who avoid being fired but you can say that about any field of work. It’s a sad reality of life.
Bottom line is that a toxic person was fired from his job and rightfully so.
I believe he was posting cosplay of Goblin King on his socials and OF which is r a good look for anyone and I doubt if he was straight he’d have gotten away from it. X-Men 97 might be dark and nature but it’s still an animated show/ cartoon that will draw in younger viewers.
By all accounts it sounds like he is a shitty person who rightfully got fired.

It's especially weird because in an interview with the head of Marvel Animation, Brad Winderbaum, he specifically said he wasn't fired.

Asked if he would categorize the parting of ways as a firing, he says, "I don't. 'We parted ways' is the best way I could say."

I could definitely see a situation where they would go, "Beau, we're concerned that your Only Fans content and sexy thirst traps are going to create an image problem since you're associated with a kids show, so we have to ask you to step down." Or maybe, "You're causing too much workplace drama, you have to resign." But he still seems friendly with at least two of the directors, so if he had issues with the crew it wasn't universal.

He also reactivated his Twitter and the cosplay post is still up. Tbh, it's much tamer than I was led to believe.

I actually cried when I clocked it was about to go down. The dialogue was so great- I love that it leans on our knowledge of these iconic characters and brings out their struggles.
