The ‘X-Men’ Universe / Franchise

A lot of people on social media are wondering how Storm‘s hair and clothes changed.

People tend to forget that on top of her mutation, she has a magical background. She comes from a long line of sorcerers.

This has been a bit of a thing for X-Men before, mainly in the 90s. When the Gold Team infiltrated the Hellfire Clue during the Hellion slaughter, they were all dressed up in formal ware and then magically zapped into costume when danger arose.

I think explanations like costumes made from "unstable molecules" became a popular reason.

Yeah, I really wasn't a fan of the way Lifedeath was handled at all in animated form. It was like they weren't brave enough to really commit to it and gave it a very empty, one dimensional take on such a moving story.

It might have been an interesting idea for Storm to return without her powers and still want to be an X-Man.

The whole angle of her wanting leadership and still managing to defeat Cyclops in the comics was a really cool and unexpected concept and fascinating to watch a powerless mutant lead the team. It would have given Lifedeath more span and impact as well.
I see what you mean, but Storm does give the best highlights when she uses her powers.

EDIT: If Storm’s new look is permanent (I hope it isn’t), they’ll have to redo so much of the opening titles.

You say that like they haven’t redone certain aspects of the intro already. Episodes 1-3 had Jean (Madelyn) with her hair down in her solo shot and then episode 4 onwards, her hair is tied up. They’ve also been having different sequences put into the montage part of the intro - it’s definitely possible to do.

This is one thing I will agree on. It would have been a fascinating moment to see Storm function as a normal human. Seeing her take lessons in hand to hand combat and learn how to use guns was pretty badass in the comics.

I'm all for Storm using her classic costume for a while, but I do want her iconic 80's look to appear

It's a nice combo of the original and her 90's white look.

I still have to catch up on this week’s but I’m glad they went backwards, not forwards, if they were determined to change Storm’s costume because it was flop after flop for well over a decade after she lost her 90s look.

Honestly, they could all use a costume change to try and show some more growth. Especially Jean. I hate that Jim Lee outfit SO much. She really suffers from lacking many great looks in the comics. While I kind of liked the Blue and Red look from a few years ago, this Russell Dauterman design is probably her best one.

Oh I did love this look, that whole period of the comics was super good, both in terms of story and costuming.
Love the costumes but the Claremont Revolution era deserved to be wiped away in favour of the iconic Morrison rebrand!

Back to the cartoon, I would have liked to see Storm on the team for at least an episode with no powers kicking arse, but at the same time a worthwhile story that added to her character was still told.

Finally caught up, and loved the Storm plot. She regained her powers a wee bit too fast but her transformation scene was a proper moment and The Adversary was creepy as fuck.

I have no interest in Charles and he can stay in space.

It was absolutely awful, I remember reading it every month in utter horror at the endless legion of awful new villains, aimless plots and madcap writing logic. It just got worse and worse the longer it went on. No wonder Marvel emergency canned it within a year, its easily one of the worse regarded runs in franchise history.

X-Treme X-Men was thankfully a much better run for Claremont.

Xtreme Xmen started off strong but it didn’t take long to just fall off a cliff quality wise.
And I’ve honestly never been that keen on the Morrison era either. Hated the art style, costumes were bland and the actual lineup was one of the worst ever, except for Jean.
E is for Extinction was a solid saga but other than that? Not for me.

Morrison era is incredible! Quitely is a comics master even if not for everyone. He’s on…another level, talent-wise. Igor Kordey’s art is messy and I didn’t used to like it but he was apparently super rushed putting it out to keep up with demand so I get it. The later arcs have fantastic art (apart from Van Sciver, the dickhead that he is), and it remains probably THE important run after Claremont, followed by Hickman’s recent work. So important it’s being adapted in part in the show!

Morrison’s run was hit or miss for me too(especially towards the end) but I’ll give them credit for making the X-Men cool again. Krakoa, as it has been depicted, also may never have happened without some of the big mythology additions Morrison made. They also built on the strong foundations of Generation X and turning Emma into a leading lady.

She could’ve languished in limbo for years when Gen X was cancelled.

Even though they defaulted to Emma when Marvel said no to having Colossus on the team.

Their original plans were insane (classic for Morrison... the Rogue and Gambit ideas? Erm...) so editorial did the Lord's work tightening it up a bit.

And Claremont taking his faves and to X-Treme and refusing to let Morrison play with them helped us dodge several bullets.

The fascination with a goth Rogue in that era was wild. Especially since we were well out of the goth peak of the 90s.

The Morrison era was a hard adjustment for me at the time. It borderline felt like I was reading an Ultimates series with the way the characters spoke and acted but its a great run overall with a clear vision and arc from start to end.

The art will always hinder for it. For such a high profile catch with Morrison, it didn't end up with the best visuals for various reasons which is always a blot on the series.

Just binged the 6 episodes available as a Rogue stan. Really enjoyed the first 5 episodes, even if the 5th one was obviously heartbreaking since Gambit is another favourite of mine. But episode 6 was... I'll admit, I know a pretty good amount of X-Men lore and backstory, but everything that happened with Xavier was far more than my knowledge covers. I was so confused the entire time. But I assume it'll return back to Earth soon anyway.

Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Shi’ar stuff was a lot to take in. I’m a huge X stan and even my own knowledge of their space adventures is spotty at best.

I also didn’t need to know that Xavier is the sub to Lilandra’s dom top.
