Never Be The Same Again
Album track from ‘We Are Smug’
Average: 6,79
Highest score: 2x10 (@rawkey, @jtm)
Lowest score: 1x4 (@Sprockrooster)

And it’s a wrap for We Are Smug! Having sensationally held out until shortly before the top 100, ‘Never Be The Same Again’ is unfortunately not able to cross the finish line, which means that the whole album has bombed out before we get to the 100 best Darren songs.

I think what’s most surprising is that this is the best rated song of the album by some distance (even @londonrain offers half a compliment below). Even that was not enough for a top 100 placement, but at the very least it managed a full 50 places higher than ‘Tear It Up’.

Full placements of We Are Smug are following in the next post. Let’s end this with the commentary:

@londonrain: ‘Pleasant enough.’ (5)

@rawkey: ‘"You can take a broken arm and smash it through a window pain." - what a line! THE discovery of this rate, how have I slept on this gem for over a decade?’ (10)

@Eric: ‘I guess it's worth persevering with the odder bits of We Are Smug for this’ (7)

@jtm: ‘There's two or three songs on this that are wasted on a 'free album', and this is one of them. Though I'm not sure I'd rate it the same if it was on a regular album. Hm.. No. I think it is a 10 for me regardless.’ (10)

I Don't Care
B-side from ‘Affirmation’
Average: 6,8
Highest score: 1x9 (@CorgiCorgiCorgi)
Lowest score: 1x3,9 (@rawkey)

The final track to go out before the top 100 is also the first loss from the Affirmation era, which means that every era has now lost at least one song, with the Affirmation, Tension and Secret Codes main albums still remaining complete.

It also means that a total of six optional songs will be in the top 100. I will post a short recap of what we have left after this.

So, ‘I Don’t Care’. It’s the only new song released as a b-side to Affirmation, with the b-side spot on the Affirmation singles usually filled by live versions of album tracks or the Australian only Savage Garden album tracks. ‘I Don’t Care’ was used as a b-side to both the ‘Affirmation and ‘Crash and Burn’ singles. There’s even a remix around if you’re a fan of the track.

Here’s the very short comments this got:

@londonrain: ‘She’s a cute girl.’ (6.5)

@rawkey: ‘A total snoozefest.’ (3.9)

@jtm: ‘This is better than I remembered’ (7.5)

What is in a desperate need of a bit of cull is the extra part of Secret Codes to be honest. Has that era even lost anything?!

I totally agree! I can't believe the era appears to be that popular.

Anyway, a round of applause for the lovely people of this thread for getting rid of We Are Smug before the top 100!

Universe is rather lovely, I think we should really leave the Savage Garden debut alone for a while now.

The odd thing is that I still don't have the faintest idea what's actually going to win? Most rate have an obvious winner, but I'm not sure if there's one particular song in this one we can all agree on. Going into this I thought To The Moon and Back was probably the closest to being universally loved, but if the first album's performance so far is anything to go by I'm not so sure.

He/Him
The Harold Song begs to differ otherwise. In the bopmania that Kesha brings it is even a bigger feat.
See also: I Wanna Be With You in the Mandy Moore rate and On The Boundary in the PJOPS Winners’ Rate, both of which had plenty of bops.
Thank you all for reassuring me that my 11 might win (it isn’t Truly Madly Deeply but is akin to a ballad) but five examples out of over a hundred rates still tell me it’s unlikely although not impossible :D
