This Morning

Eamon Holmes has given an exclusive to Dan Wooton about Phillip. I can’t watch it on principle of hating Dan Wooton, which is a shame.
If it helps, the bits on Dan’s tiktok are nearly solely Eamon.

If I’ve understood him correctly, he knew the rumours and Matthew was promoted out but that’s about it. His issue is with Phillip as a person (and Holly). He basically said everybody hated him, except one loose woman. The complaint Ruth made in 2019 wasn’t about Matthew but was about Phillip being rude.

This is an interesting turn of events now, as the toxicity of the show is becoming the story, rather than Phillip’s relationship. Unless Matthew comes out to give his side of the story, I can see This Morning as a whole becoming a focus.

From all the available evidence, I don’t think there’s enough to confirm the relationship started when Matthew was a child. And unless there are texts or something to the contrary, I feel like grooming would be tough to prove. I think the real story is it was an abuse of power and Matthew was treated very poorly.

Wherever this goes, I think it would be unfair to cancel it because it’s not the Phillip and Holly show, and there’s hundreds of “innocent” people who would be out of a job. Bin the bad seeds, make some changes and let it keep going.

As I recall, Phillip coming out didn’t have anything to do with the grooming rumors. It was mostly just about his rude backstage behavior and also the Ruth incident. The whole McGreevy situation kind of slowly trickled out around that time, but that wasn’t the story Phil was trying to get ahead of at the time.

The Loose Women clearly dislike him. Look at their reactions when they had to discuss Phil coming out and when This Morning won the NTA earlier this year.

I have to say I'm really grossed out by the way this has been treated as a soap opera story online. The memes, the postings of this guy's face who may or may not have been taken advantage of at the very least.

Like I don't need 100 Kim Woodburn being sassy clips and there's a real grotesque spectacle to it all emerging

This is definitely what I'm seeing happening which is a real shame. I just watched the Eamonn Holmes interview, which I hope is the last time I watch anything from GB News. His dislike of Philip Schofield seems to come mostly from him supposedly feeling like Philip was rude and had gotten too big for his boots. One interesting thing Eamonn did mention is that Schofield and his team are lawyered up so that if anyone, including the victim, tried to say anything they would face a fierce and expensive legal challenge.

It just seems like there isn't enough evidence to show there was a relationship while the victim was a child to push that story. But it's the one which needs the most focus. It seems like it was grooming which is absolutely abhorrent. However a high profile case like this could really open up that conversation which desperately needs to happen in showbiz.

The show itself is beyond saving now. Getting rid of Phil (and Holly) wouldn’t solve the issues at hand. The fact that issues about a toxic workplace were raised and the people behind the show just…phased out the one who called the issue to attention shows that it’s rotten from the core.
Get rid and wipe the slate clean. It’s haemorrhaging viewers as it is.

They'd be wise to end This Morning a bit earlier than usual (don't they always take a break for the summer holidays?) and then return slightly revamped later in the year [minus Holly]. The show is going to continue to be the focus of news stories etc. I imagine some internal investigations are taking place too and it would make sense for them to go off air for a few months.

Just an update to what I originally posted, I thought I’d watched the full interview but I’ve since seen longer clips, as Eamon has a lot more to say about Matthew, so the inappropriateness of the relationship is still in being discussed.

The show is on all year I'm sure, they just have different presenters over the holidays.

I just remembered, Rylan said something which everybody assumed was about This Morning a bit before this all kicked off, so presumably he was aware of the event that was the catalyst for it all to come out now. So there does seem to have been a definite trigger to it all.

It's really not though. There was a lot of talk of it losing over 100k in a single week but they were comparing it to the previous Monday which was a bank holiday.

I think This Morning will survive, mainly because I think the focus will switch back to Phillip if (when) more things come out.

All those random 'Shirley Carter's X' soap accounts are gutter trash who have treated this like a circus for memes. Tweeting about the presenter who died last week in a crass and memey way. This entire thing is an ego trip for their like as opposed to engaging on any level with the seriousness of the situation. Convincing themselves of their own vigilante justice while they stalk Corrie cast members round Primark.

Brain rotted individuals fed on a diet of twitter attention, ITV morning slop and soap operas.

Things like toxicity in TV shows isn't the kind of thing that goes away anymore. Look at Ellen. It hangs over them until something major happens.

She/They
Rooting for Allison to steer the ship honestly, because she deserves it, but seeing her sending love hearts to Rishi Sunak on socials made me throw up in my mouth.

There’s no way they’re ending the show, but it’s wild how dismissive the whole current production is being around the discourse when they’d drag a guest through the mud for not answering anything and everything they asked.

Those ‘soap’ accounts are vile. The trolling of Kate king… the stanning of a 15 year old X factor audition…gross gutter humour/content.

They could possibly bring Richard & Judy back for another guest stint to try and cleanse the brand a bit and remind people of the show's legacy. But perhaps it would be better to take it off over the summer and relaunch in the Autumn.

Again, that's just putting a plaster over a huge cut. It needs more than a rebrand or guest presenters. The stink will remain until it's ripped apart and either rebuilt or replaced by something totally new.
