Another Delirium track bites the dust, and thankfully it's one of the worst on the album. It's...fine? A bit dull, a bit dated and very unmemorable. The production is really safe and doesn't even try to push the envelope like other tracks on the album do (Codes, Don't Need Nobody). For me, the worst part is the lyrics, they're very Rachel Platten (I had to google her name because I forgot it) meets 'squad goalz' nonsense and I have no time for it. Ellie probably didn't like it either because it was deemed only bonus-track worthy...which in my opinion was still kinda generous when she still had better songs (Here's To Us, Still Falling For You) up her sleeve.

Even its performance throughout the voting period was mediocre, it remained floating between #70 and #65 on a bunch of 6 scores. In hindsight I should've given it a 4, because with the averages tight it may have helped out the tracks we've just lost.

ohnostalgia (4) has HAD IT, oh-fish-ially.

I refuse to entertain this nonsense. NEXT.

Acting as the Daniella Westbrook to ohnostalgia’s Gemma Collins, kaushik (4) was also heading straight for that fire exit door!

Can't be bothered to sit through it.

They’re off!

Slice of Life (4) is a shady lady bringing up Katy like that...you ain't wrong tho.

The lyrics are somewhat embarrassing, like Katy Perry Roar level of embarrassing. Kii. Should've sold this to needy C-listers instead, sis.

Sprockrooster (5) commentary reminds me of Detox’s verse in Read U Wrote U:

Not really living up to it's title. Far from it. Not 'The Worst' either.

D.Jay (6) did too much comparing this to Lorde, and that can never be a bad thing…

I felt that this song was already dated when it came out. It sounds too much like a Lorde song not in a good way.

Island (7) sounds awfully similar to a member of Ellie’s team...

Cute. This could probably fit better on a soundtrack, though.

Hasn’t she done enough soundtracks though??

This may not be ‘the greatest’, but it’s good enough for Terminus (8.5):

The melody in that chorus: it's so familiar it's a comfort. I'd rather more of this than the awful dance "BOP" attempts.

First2Run (8.5), meanwhile, hailed this ‘a perfect opening to an extras section’.

DJHazey (9) loves a nice, long chorus after a stressful day and work:

That effortless melody that starts up at the prechorus creates the 'extra long chorus' effect that I love so much.

What in the world? These should've lasted at least 10-15 more eliminations. The last three songs in fact. I should've known bonus track status and then "white nonsense" lyrics would be their downfall. Get taste, get prayers, etc.

Room for a little one?

65. Midas Touch – Ellie Goulding (feat. BURNS)

Man, I really can't wait until the eliminated tracks get more interesting...there really isn't much to say about this one so forgive me for scraping the barrel for content.

This is ok...it's objectively a decent song but within the context of 'The Ellie Goulding Discography Rate', this is one of my least favourite tracks here. I respect it for completely revamping the original, which was released by funk band Midnight Star back in 1986, and making it sound modern and chic. I like the production, it's very 'Soundcloud producer with 2 million plays', but it's solid. My problem is that the production dominates the track and leaves Ellie's vocals in the background...she feels almost disposable, as if it could've been any female vocalist singing on this.

Like The Greatest, it remained in pretty much the same spot throughout the voting period as the other tracks moved around it.

ufint (3) brands it: Unobtrusive elevator music.

Not even slightly suprised that DJHazey (4) doesn't like this one!

This is a muddled mess and I'm not sorry for thinking that. (Though I'd be shocked if this has many fans)

Kii, it doesn’t.

Without this comment from ohnostalgia (5), I probably would have never watched the music video…so thanks for sharing the trauma sis...

Sorry I'm too busy being traumatized by the music video to write commentary.

kaushik (5) seems to think that 10 listens isn’t a lot for a bad Halcyon Days track…

Never liked this from the first time I heard it. I've probably only heard the song 10 times overall…

Fun fact, I’ve probably only listened to this 5 times...tops.

Notorious Halcyon-hater Mikey1707 (6) was indifferent:

Another one I never “use” but it’s not bad as such.

It wasn’t all hate, mind. D.Jay (7) was sort-of here for it:

I really love Ellie’s producer experiments and this was one that paid off. Another seductive number that really shows off her voice in a new way.

This has lost its touch for First2Run (7.5)...

Not as amazing as I used to find it, but it’s still quite a trippy experience.

But wait, this track actually has a full-on stan in the form of Slice of Life (9.5):

Amazing! The production is easily the best part of the song which I'm guessing is the good sis BURNS' work. I love the low-key sexy vibe of it. And Ellie's icy vocals is a work of art here.

Epic Chocolat (8.2): I like the jazzy lounge vibe.

Well if the track did actually have this vibe, I might like it more. I think there’s an attempt at that sound but it’s too cold and distant to really get there.

Mmm, it's my note and commentary for Tessellate [Alt-J cover]. I gave Midas Touch a 6. And it's not jazzy at all. Great hosting otherwise, nice pace.

OOPS, I've moved it now!

And thanks, on that note I do hope everyone is ok with the pace...I'm gonna keep it to 3 a day until the top 60 comes because that's when the cuts get more interesting.

The plan is:
#79-#60 - 3 a day
#59-#40 - 2 a day
Top 40 - 1 a day

Can we keep 2 a day til the final? I think we've got a really good pace at the moment and you'll definitely lose that momentum cutting down to a single elimination. I'd also say maybe 3 a day til the top 40, too, as there's just so many tracks to get through.

I actually really like Midas Touch. Much like Tessellate, I appreciate how the production was pushed to differentiate it from the original.

Active Child's debut is decent, worth checking out if you have a passing interest. Never got around to listening to album two.

Well for the top 10 I definitely think it's worth keeping it to one a day since the order of elimination is a bit odd (in my opinion), so there is a lot to be discussed with every elimination. There is a tie in the top 10 so that will be a 2-parter that day.

Well I'm sure this won't come as much of a shock to anyone, this has always been deemed on of Delirium's undisputed filler tracks. Personally quite like it, there's something very melancholic about it, which I'm always a fan of in pop music. I think in the end that may have counted against it here because after so many tracks, 'melancholic' can easily read as dreary and disconnected. There is definitely a coldness and lack of heart here, which is even more evident when you compare it to album tracks from her first 2 albums. The strongest part is definitely the chorus, which tries its damned hardest to be anthemic and memorable, which it half-succeeds in because it does go off when I'm in the right mood. I feel like as a closer it could've been a lot stronger, but that's more of a sequencing issue.

Like a lot of his fellow album tracks, the response was not overwhelmingly negative (it mostly got 6s), just a bit lukewarm. This was further shown by the lack of commentary for it compared to other tracks that we've lost so far:

Like many, kaushik (4) had checked out by this point:

Can't be bothered to sit through it.

I kinda agree with ohnostalgia (5) on this one:

I mean there's nothing wrong with it? But how many vaguely inspirational tracks with big empty choruses does one need in life?

Slice of Life (7) gives us a balanced argument:

This album is just all over the place in terms of soundscape, isn't it? This isn't all that original-sounding and it's pretty much done better before by tens of artists. But this is still cute for what it is.

To DrinkMyTears (7.5), this SCREAMS of filler:

Feels a bit filler-ish

D.Jay (8) credits producer Jim Eliot for its anthemic powers:

Jim Eliot really works some production wonders. This song is a triumph closer to the album. Whilst lyrically the song is pretty bland, the song is arena-ready.

First2Run (8.5) wasn't the first2complement the production values of this track;

An excellent album closer, although it almost seems a bit like it was created just for that purpose. Either way, it’s nice enough and the production is magnificent.

DJHazey (9) is partial to a screaming moment now and then:

I'm always a sucker for a huge anthemic chorus like this. There really isn't anything else to say when the moment is that good.

It looks like Mikey1707 (10) might need to scream into a pillow after he sees this cut...

The perfect closing track to the standard edition of Delirium. It’s like the better moments of Halcyon and Bright Lights in one song. If I could give this a 10.5, I would.

Poor it.
