Another day, another incorrect judgement call from you lot. This is a really nice track and I feel like y'all underrated it. At this point the averages are acceptable so I'm not exactly angry about that, it's just the lack of appreciation for the production here that bothered me somewhat.

Co-produced by Jimmy Napes, a frequent collaborator with the likes of Disclosure and Jessie Ware, Heal sees Ellie venture into the deep house genre like never before. As such, the production is the main focal point here; underpinned by an array of lush, swelling synths, there's almost a claustrophobic quality here. The layered soundscapes create a sense of tension, which makes this a bit of an event in the latter section of the deluxe trackless. To me this is one of the more well-executed tracks from the Delirium era - modern, clean and impeccably produced.

Opinion was mixed but the taste came through eventually (scroll down a bit to find it):

ufint (1) simply wrote “Zzzzzzzzzzzz”

U wot m8, Remyky22 (5)?

Faux atmospheric and leading absolutely nowhere

How exactly does one ‘fake’ atmosphere though?? It's a song. So many questions...

Slice of Life (5) was straight-up DONE by this point...

I have no more words left for this kind of mediocrity. Sis, get your shit together. You are so above this. justin_bieber_-_love_yourself.mp3

Even the tenacious Mikey1707 (6) had lost some steam by this point!

These bonus tracks just don’t do it for me.

DJHazey (6) is just being honest with us, and I respect that:

There's really nothing wrong with this song persay (sic), it's just never done much for me personally.

D.Jay (7) was hoping for a bit more ~progression~, production-wise...

Another moody number. I really do enjoy this song but I sometimes feel that compared to the rest of the album it doesn’t go anywhere.

kaushik (8) likes the vocals (good), but not the production (of course):

I think her vocals are great on this song. The whole thing is a tad overproduced, which is a shame.

Clearly DrinkMyTears (8) didn’t get the memo about NOT mentioning Loreen to me…the wounds have yet to heal…

Forgettable tbh. Reminds me of Loreen's debut, not just because of the name but it's also sonically similar.

rdp (8) felt very attacked:

"I think you're in love with the pain you feel, you won't let it go, won't let it heal"... wow she really came for me with this song.

Consideration (8) manages to sneak some Devotion praise into his commentary, which is always more-than welcome in my book.

Finally getting here feels like an accomplishment after the album going completely off the rails after Devotion. The only bonus track (aside from Let It Die) that feels worthwhile.

First2Run (9) felt a deep connection:

The deep boopy sound of this really gets to me.

FINALLY, a correct opinion on this song, courtesy of ohnostalgia (10):

This is excellent; I can imagine Heal soundtracking a fever induced delirium. The glimmering synths are a welcome relief from the more generic drops and beats that pack the rest of this album. I didn't realize how much I needed to hear her work in her lower register because it's goddamn stunning. Dare I say this is a bit early Ellie? It's wonderful to hear her realize a masterful mood piece again.

Could have stayed a tad longer.. There's still some filled to go.

I'm afraid I've underrated Two Years Ago. I hope it sticks around for a little while longer. It deserves to.

Burn represents nothing about Ellie as an artist except her ability to sell out for "coin". Not deserving of its number 1 chart placing and the fart-like intro synths give me dread. Shame on Tedder for creating this and Ellie deserves none of the writing credits money.

This really, doesn't help it's still basic as hell but for me it never fails to bring up the memories of watching the brilliant Halcyon flail in the charts. Seeing the public allow this to be #1, in turn pushing Ellie to go down the path she treads today is still a bitter pill to swallow.

Now we break into the top 60...

C'mon androgyny! C'mon undercut!

Another day, another extra falls. This time it's her collaboration with Popjustice fave and ex-boyfriend Skrillex for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) in 2012. The production is a lot better than the average (emphasis on average) Skrillex track; the twinkling synths make it a lot more airy and delicate than his usual material, to its benefit. It's not all about the production though, there are some really strong refrains from Ellie here, particularly in the chorus.

Unlike a lot of you guys, I'm not really a fan of the looped vocal manipulations, Strillex kinda overdid it on that front. It's almost a bop, but the melody is a bit too clumsy and disjointed to pop off like I want it to, but the final chorus is a nice attempt. Ultimately, we've since had Devotion, which does the 'progressive dance bop' FAR more successfully.

Like a lot of tracks getting cut around this point in the rate, this didn't get tanked by an onslaught of low scores, but simply failed to get enough high scores to pull it up.

As @DJHazey knows, the song was the third to be played in the end credits of the film, so get that exposure I guess...

Despite describing Ellie’s singing as ‘wailing’ throughout her commentary, ohnostalgia (5) had enough by this point in the scoring process:

Why is her voice so unpleasant on this??

This isn’t a favourite for kaushik (6):

I never really listen to this as much. It’s okay.

Slice of Life (6) had a slice of memory loss...

Pretty sure I won't remember about this after I finished listening to it for five times. Kii. It's that unmemorable.

For DJHazey (8), this one’s a little bittersweet:

Wow, the verses are so instantly craveable. I wish it had a stronger chorus, but this could definitely be a grower.

I'd love to hear you sing along to this, D.Jay (9)...

I forgot how great this song sounds. What brilliance. The manipulated vocals throughout are bliss and it is always funny attempting to sing them.

You say this like it’s an unpopular opinion, Laura Vanderbooben (10)?

This is literally the best thing to come out of the entire Twilight franchise, and I'm including the careers of the actors in that statement.

he/him
How can I deny the feeling?

Oh. Wrong song.

Can't use the fuse that lights the spark.

It's not fair to compare it to that kind of pop behemoth. n n n

---

Oh, I don't even remember it in the Twilight credits and I usually stay for all credits, even though Marvel is usually the only one to have extra scenes during them.

I didn't rate (I don't think I could be able to listen to the entirety of Delirium), but what a shame to see Heal this low, not a highlight in Ellie's discography, but definitely a cute little song

I lowkey want Delirium supporters to trash Heal so i have ammunition when i'm revealed to be lowest scorer for Codes and Something In The Way You Move.

I identified the remix I was talking about, by listening to this mix. I didn't care to know what it was because it was part of a set played on radio FG that I recorded.
Now I can listen to the song on its own, so cool!
