Another day, another extra falls. This time it's her collaboration with Popjustice fave and ex-boyfriend Skrillex for
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) in 2012. The production is a lot better than the average (emphasis on
average) Skrillex track; the twinkling synths make it a lot more airy and delicate than his usual material, to its benefit. It's not all about the production though, there are some really strong refrains from Ellie here, particularly in the chorus.
Unlike a lot of you guys, I'm not really a fan of the looped vocal manipulations, Strillex kinda overdid it on that front. It's
almost a bop, but the melody is a bit too clumsy and disjointed to pop off like I want it to, but the final chorus is a nice attempt. Ultimately, we've since had Devotion, which does the 'progressive dance bop' FAR more successfully.
Like a lot of tracks getting cut around this point in the rate, this didn't get tanked by an onslaught of low scores, but simply failed to get enough high scores to pull it up.
As
@DJHazey knows, the song was the third to be played in the end credits of the film, so get that exposure I guess...
Despite describing Ellie’s singing as ‘wailing’ throughout her commentary,
ohnostalgia (5) had enough by this point in the scoring process:
Why is her voice so unpleasant on this??
This isn’t a favourite for
kaushik (6):
I never really listen to this as much. It’s okay.
Slice of Life (6) had a slice of memory loss...
Pretty sure I won't remember about this after I finished listening to it for five times. Kii. It's that unmemorable.
For
DJHazey (8), this one’s a little bittersweet:
Wow, the verses are so instantly craveable. I wish it had a stronger chorus, but this could definitely be a grower.
I'd love to hear you sing along to this,
D.Jay (9)...
I forgot how great this song sounds. What brilliance. The manipulated vocals throughout are bliss and it is always funny attempting to sing them.
You say this like it’s an unpopular opinion,
Laura Vanderbooben (10)?
This is literally the best thing to come out of the entire Twilight franchise, and I'm including the careers of the actors in that statement.
