Tinashe - Songs For You

Do we know how much control she has over the songs she recorded under RCA if she does indeed leave? I know she’ll have some control due to writing credits but I’m not sure on the specifics.

Do you mean songs recorded but not yet released? Or her back catalogue?

For the former, I believe that it'll depend on whether they were physically recorded (and who owns the masters as part of her contract). For the latter it'll be RCA (unless she owns the masters to all of her recordings - which isn't exclusive to big stars, I believe that Kelis, for example, has this clause).

That said, I think the prolific work (and general high quality) from Tinashe indicate that even if she left with her name and little else, she'd still have a 9/10 album ready to go from scratch in around 2 weeks... which is reassuring for all of us...

Thanks sis; I was more so referring to the unreleased tracks specifically for Nashe. I’m sure either way just the freedom to create and release would mean we’d see a quick turnaround from her, as you said.

For what it is, and given its long torturous gestation, the Joyride album as a whole is pretty good honestly. It was never going to live up to the sky high expectations that had been set since 2015 (!!!!) but she still managed to put something out that she can be proud of. I still play it fairly regularly.

I don't get how anyone who knows and appreciates Tinashe's discography could hate "Joyride." Ok it's no "Nightride" nor "Aquarius," but it was the perfect mainstream pop-R&B album for her. It's the embodiment of her alt-R&B sound ("He Don't Want It," "Faded Love," the title track) and poppier songs that still have her signature all over them and have something interesting to offer lyrically ("Salt," "Fire & Flames") and production-wise ("Stuck With Me," No Contest," the mega-summer-bop "Ooh La La"). There isn't a single song that I would get rid off on this album and the only one that I would call basic would be "Me So Bad," but it was the goal and I enjoyed it a lot. It's not a masterpiece of an album but it's still a very solid effort and it stayed true to Tinashe and her artistry. we could have had "Flames" and "Light The Night Up" x10 so show a little gratefulness please

Also, "Stuck With Me" is one of the best things she has ever done.
