TLC

Creep
No Scrubs (Left Eye Rap Version ONLY)
Waterfalls
Ain’t Too Proud To Beg
and an ever-changing toss up between:
-What About Your Friends
-Silly Ho
-Unpretty

Lisa rocked that ponytail, probably my favorite look from her.

Ha! I legitimately posted this on my Facebook last week because not enough people talk about it. This was a MOMENT. Kim has the distinction of being part of two iconic female collaboration revisions of old songs for soundtracks.

I've been on a TLC binge recently (what an amazing album Fanmail is) which led me to see this for the first time on YouTube.

Left Eye had so much talent, charisma and energy. Such a loss.

WHAAAAT? How could you have missed this iconic collaboration? I remember it being on heavy rotation on MTV in the US, was it not a hit in the UK?

It wasn’t a big hit at all in the UK, it reached #11 and didn’t hang around long which back in the late 90s wasn’t unusual as sales were front loaded.

Ha! I remember seeing the chart placement and thinking that was pretty good but I guess not. I remember it was around for a few, it got a few plays on the radio but most of it‘s exposure was the video airplay.

It only spent 5 weeks in the top 100! But the UK charts were ultra fast moving back then. Literally a track would get AirPlay/build up for 6-8 weeks before release then debut at its peak. It was rare for anything to climb the charts and loads of #1 singles only stayed there a week or 2 but sold a decent amount in a short period.

Ahhh, well it peaked at #6 here and was on our charts for 21 weeks(!!).

Left Eye’s part was always my favorite. I still remember most of her verse and a bit of the choreo after all this time, haha.

Also, special shoutout to her last line “I be the one to blame as the flames keep rising* to the top and it don’t stop” referencing the fact she set a fire to Andre Rison*’s house. Legendary moment of being unapologetic.

This thread made me dig out my old FanMail CD to listen, I didn’t realize there was another version of the album without some of the samples until I looked it up. Glad mine is the uncensored original version.

What an album. This is the first time I’ve given it a spin as an adult and it’s a great album. I had to replace the album version of “No Scrubs” though, how anyone thought a no rap version was a good idea is beyond me, it always feels so hollow without her. Shame Left Eye didn’t get to contribute to it the way she wanted to, it would’ve been an 11/10 probably with her input but a 9.5/10 is solid.

While on the subject, has there really never been a release of the full 4:00 Main Mix (the one with Rap) of “No Scrubs” that’s uncensored?
