Top of the Pops BBC4

Do you know why he hated it? I assume because it was too poppy/catchy? It was the first thing by them that my 2 Unlimited/Urban Cookie Collective/Capella loving ears liked.
"In the decade after its release, the band largely disowned the song. Anderson considers the single and accompanying video the worst the band has released, stating, "I don't think the fuss about Stay Together was justified, I think that was just hype. [...] I just find it a bit bombastic. I don't think the lyrics are that good either. It's okay." However publicist Jane Savidge suggests that Anderson "can't believe he wrote it about that girl, Anick" (Brett's girlfriend at the time), which is why he has no feelings for it."

The fact that it was released so close to Bernard leaving may also have given it toxic associations. In the watchalong on the Lost In TV DVD Brett gets up and walks out of the room when this video comes on.

Thanks for the info...I've always loved that song, and the full version is epic! Also had two great B-sides on the CD/12 inch.

Oh my, it's the "iconic" performance of Move On Baby by Capella. Poor Kelly. She can't sing for toffee. I loved this song so much but this performance was terrible!

According to her Facebook, she was very ill after returning from Japan and had no management with her, so I assume she felt she had to perform live regardless.

I've heard her perform live on YouTube at other gigs in the 90s and she sounds fine.

Which were often sung by black people / non Brits / women dd or were liked by queer people / kids / women. You can't deny it only affected certain music / audiences.

I just don't agree that makes it sexist/racist/homophobic.

It was about the music itself, not who was singing it. I'm sure Stanley Appel didn't have a problem with black female vocalists.

It was a bit snobby, a bit of refusal to move with the times, and a bit understandable considering they were trying to make an entertaining television programme.

Yes it’s not racist or sexist but snobbery. Dina Carroll, Cece Peniston, Mariah Carey and Wendy Moten - all non white women who have given great performances on recent repeats. Most of these dance acts had divas with belting live vocals - just not Capella!

Interesting that Dina Carroll would perform Hold On - an album track that was already a year old. I guess this is the last we see of her until 1996.

They really should have had new material ready for 1995 at the latest to keep her momentum going.

I think Dina was just there because she’d won a Brit award that week. She didn’t have a single to promote so did an album track as a treat!

I "enjoyed" the iconic Cappella performance for all the wrong reasons. I always preferred the Move singles to the U Got 2 singles. Poor Kelly O, that has to be the worst vocal ever heard on TOTP.

Shame we didn't get a studio performance of Sail Away, it's Urban Cookie Collective's best song and so much better than The Key, The Secret.
