Top of the Pops BBC4

I was furious that they didn't show Maxx on the last show, but chose to show Deep Forest, Julia Fordham whose album didn't even go top 20, Alice Cooper whose song didn't even go top 20 and East 17 who were on 2 weeks in a row (music video then live) which I thought they weren't allowed to do unless the song went to #1!

Ric Blaxill got rid of that rule.
Maxx will be on twice in the next few weeks! They've also been playout already

Did I spot our iconique audience member next to Simon Mayo during his link between The Grid video and Arrested Development?

So it took Wet Wet Wet a couple of weeks to get to Nr.1!
I'd never heard of Galliano - not sure if they were trying to make it seem that you were at their concert - or if it was actually chaotic (probably the latter).
In 1994 I felt I heard 'I Swear' about a trillion times on the radio. Wasn't it originally a country song?

I have no recollection of Galliano either. The name rings no bells, neither does the song nor any of the faces in the group.

You probably did hear I Swear a trillion times. It was so overplayed, and is one of the worst songs ever. they always seemed like an even less cool mix of Boyz II Men and Color Me Badd , neither of which was the least bit cool to me. Hate Wet Wet Wet all you like, but at least they prevented this from dross from getting to number 1! I am also so glad we got Eternal in the UK doing Someday (from Hunchback of Notre Dame) rather than All 4 One.

Big Mountain's Baby I Love Your Way is another of those on Now 29 that should have been on 28!

That video from The Grid was like an updated Money For Nothing. It was probably really amazing at the time.

I loved Arrested Development during their first album, it had some great singles and songs ... People Everyday, Mr Wendel, Tennessee, Give A Man A Fish, Mama's Always On Stage ... but then the second album came along and I had zero interest, but that song wasn't bad! Maybe I should check it out.

Jarvis Cocker was only 30 at the time of this. He seems so much older - but then also seems so juvenile with his "I hate Wet Wet Wet" sign in his jacket. Grow up Jarvis!

I know about 3 Pink Floyd songs and Take It Back is one of them - what a choon!

I remember "I Swear" being massive, but luckily I think this is the first time I've heard it since about 1995. It's a perfect example of terribly bland American music that mainstream UK radio lapped up back then. No wonder Radio One, music magazines and the public dived headfirst into Britpop at this point in time.

Ric Blaxhill was on record at the time as saying acts like All-4-One would "educate" viewers of the show.

Ric probably still hamstrung by hardly anyone decent about to film their current singles. There's still a lot of Will This Do in 1994.

Was it Ric or his successor who first allowed artists to "bank" future singles when they did their visits to the studios?
