Top of the Pops BBC4

I absolutely loathed it. Capital FM seemed to play it at least every hour if not more and it was always on Capital where I worked. As soon as I heard the 'doo be doo be..' bits I was 'aggggh'.
I can remember someone I used to work with saying to another colleague of mine about her mood that day when that song was playing "No wonder you are so miserable today what with that song playing!"

I had the Diva album on cassette at the time, but I don't think I listened to it once I was a teenager and I'd sort of forgot about it my twenties and the DJ in our club would play "Little Bird" and "Walking on Broken Glass". I always find it amusing when you bring up the album to older friends and they all have the same story of having a flatmate who split up with someone and would lock themselves in a room with "No More..." and "Why" on repeat and can't bear to listen to the record any longer.

I never had that but that doo bee do bit just gets me right in that bit of your jaw that biting into the foil on a Kit Kat does.

What I don’t get with Annie Lennox is why she put lots into the visual of the performance but did a lazy mime job (without even bothering with a switched off microphone!)? Surely she could have sung live?

Just caught up with this week's episodes, some good tracks, but due to an episode being cut (which featured Deuce) they were both a little samey.

9 year old me bought the cassettes of Alex Party and Vanessa Mae off of the back of this episode. Don't give me your life is still in my regular rotation to this day. Total bop.

Walking On Broken Glass is peak Annie for me but I can see why Little Bird (remix) / Love Song For A Vampire was rightfully massive.

Also have a soft spot for Waiting In Vain from the covers album. Always felt it was a shame she seemed spent after just a debut album and it took a decade for new material which she then didn’t bother to make any (decent) videos for which seemed weird after a whole album of videos previously….

She came from an era where it was acceptable/expected to mime on TV though.

She would've also needed a headset microphone which would have looked and sounded like shit. Can't even remember anyone having used one on TOTP at this point.

Having now watched the Annie Lennox performance I remembered the annoying bits of the song - all those “everybody was being really crazy” spoken bits and the megalolz. They aren’t necessary on an otherwise great song.
