Top of the Pops BBC4

By early 1995 I'd started working in the record shop. A slightly crumpled bloke in his late 30s came in a few times, asking about the new Annie Lennox single: when was it out, how was it doing on the airplay charts etc. He also tried to get us interested in stocking his recent solo album - he said his band used to be signed to a label, but he had latterly gone down the indie route as a solo artist.

Didn't see him again after that spring. I hope the royalties from Lennox's version of No More 'I Love You's helped him out.

That's my The Lover Speaks anecdote.

MN8 were iconic! Three Top 10 hits off an album is nothing to scoff at - plus they were huge around Europe too, something few UK acts managed that time.
I'm not slagging off MN8 at all – but I would say that debut single with the, ahem, provocative dance routine overshadowed who they were and what they could have been. 1st Avenue were clearly aiming for the mainstream pop market – which is fair enough on one hand, but I would say Jodeci had greater longevity and credibility without having to try quite so hard. A mis-step on MN8's management's part, I'd say …

Talking of 1st Avenue acts – yay for Louise and Kellie!

MN8 we’re sooo sexy don’t even! The boys did say later on that they wished they were able to be more edgier with their music than what the rest of their output reflected.

Also, they totally influenced Peter Andre and Backstreet Boys who came soon after.

They were definitely more naturally sexy than the cheesy hot faux swagger Peter Andre was giving.

I once tweeted how BSB totally stole MN8's thunder and swag and one of them liked it dd. The sexy older one.

Mr. Nightcrawlers, John Reid messaged me on YouTube many years ago to thank me for uploading his TOTP performances of his channel. (Spookily, his ex-fiancée Mary Kiani also did a couple days later). I asked him though why he never performed Push The Feeling On, and he said "I'll tell you about it one day over a drink". I've always wondered if there was an interesting story!

Trying to figure out who owns rights to his 1999 follow up era tracks!

I LOATHE Push the feeling on with every fibre of my being.
What? WHAT. That instrumental is THE sound of that year for me. And i have such great memories clubbing to it. An anthem!

Maybe John Reid wanted to sing the proper version and not the remix? How would he have sung the gibberish anyway? I'd have loved it though just mime them and have the icons from the video just recreate it onstage.
