Top of the Pops BBC4

I hadn’t realised that Moby had managed to get on TotP in the ‘Animal Rights’ era - especially after the lead single hit the heady heights of no 50 and the one he played wasn’t chart eligible from memory.

The nonsense of Babyface etc trying to pull off some “live” performance of dancing in a fairground with just a guitar for instrumentation and the rides whirring behind them (but making no noise). Like that performance in front of the log flume a few weeks back whilst the TOTP winner sits there looking bored.

Nice to see Gina living her best life! But boy those teenage girls looked bored to tears during Bjork - one in green seemed to be glaring and wishing her off stage.

911 tended to have performances which were too fast paced and energetic for the song.

When do the old performances stop? I don’t need to see the 70s!

As is custom, there is a week of Christmas Day TOTP repeats at 7pm on BBC4 in the run up to the festive season.

Shame we're not getting 2004 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Minogue Medley!

Whilst this is all true it also featured the classic Shalamar line up of Jody, Howard and Jeffrey!

Cruel Auntie Beeb depriving us of the Minogue Medley in HQ!

I clocked that too – noticeable now as Jody doesn't (won't?) perform with Howard and Jeffrey now …

That was a really weird idea: why does Babyface – one of the hottest R&B producers of the late 80s/early-mid 90s – even need to do that? The rap was pointless and half-hearted, too … I would rather have seen Jeffrey's iconic 1982 TOTP routine again.

I have read that there's no beef between them, Shalamar have been working so long now with the lady who fills Jody's role that they're loyal to her, and even declined to tour with Jody out of loyalty.

That Prince video is the campest thing I've seen in a long time.

The Fast Show presenters were horrendous.
It may have been a bit camp, but Prince had a star quality seriously lacking in so many performers now – and the talent to back it up.

The Fast Show links were diabolically bad and so many of them seemed to rest on the 'gag' that the characters might be gay – it was feeble then and really hasn't aged well.

The original Ted and Ralph ones in the fast show were actually sweet and about unrequited love, but ,yes, they were made cheap on the TOTP sketches.
