I realize we don't have a thread for travel around here so I decided to make one for our travel concerns, recommendations, tips and more.

Also, is CouchSurfing actually safe? I have an account but I'm so clueless about how to use it.

Re: Travel

Only been abroad once in my 20 years but have now booked 5 days in NYC in November and 2 weeks in Florida next June, so excited! Anybody got any tips for either of these cities?

Re: Travel

My perception of Florida is that it's always sunny there.

Re: Travel

I'm incredibly tempted just to pack up and piss off somewhere. Not sure how much longer I can take living at home.

Miami was insane. Hot, sexy weather everyday. If it did rain, it was short, and the sun always returned not long after.

Re: Travel

Orlando with a couple of friends. Got a good deal and I've always wanted to go so it's ideal! What's the weather like end of June / beginning of July?

Re: Travel

I went to Orlando a few years ago with family, its a pretty cool city. Disneyworld etc MUST be done but I'm sure you know that! We went around halfway through July and there was thunderstorms and hail like every day, in the late afternoon but they are usually always over quite quickly. The weather is very humid though.

Re: Travel

I just came back from NYC again, it was pretty fucking awesome. The fireworks were insane, I loved the patriotism! It was incredibly hot though, I know there were worse off states on the East Coast, but yeah! Raided Hollister and American Eagle while I was there too!

Re: Travel

That sounds amazing Blob. I've never been to Europe, but I'd really want to. Hopefully I get a scholarship for graduate school over there.

Re: Travel

Next week I'm going to Oslo for two days - kinda exciting as I have never travelled alone so far.

Re: Travel

I lived in India for three months, was pretty much the most amazing experience. Hoping to go back there next year.

I went to New York last year, defintely taken in as much of Times Square as possible, maybe a Broadway musical? Stores like Toys R Us are a must! You could go up the Empire State (amazing view), go through Central Park, take a boat tour round the island, go the museums (especially the Natural History one)... oh and you must go see Avenue Q! Theres a booth in Times Square where you can get cheap tickets on the day, usually around 20/30 percent off. Hope this helps.

Re: Travel

I've been to America and The Netherlands, and I've developed something of a wanderlust...I want to go everywhere. In particular Iceland, which, ideally, I'd like to do next year, but I dunno if I could do it.

Re: Travel

Just looking up some potential work opportunities in France for a bit, and stumbled across one advertisement. Under the 'accommodation' heading, it said this:

***PACKAGE FOR COUPLE INCLUDES: - A "QUEENSIZE BED" IN A SEPARATE ROOM WITH DOOR AND LOCKER TO ENSURE PLENTY OF INTIMACY AND PRIVACY AT NIGHT THAT ANY COUPLE IS EXPECTING TO GET WHILE STAYING AT A WORKAWAYER PLACE. THE QUEEN SIZE BED" IS PROVIDED WITH : -SHEETS -BLANKET -PILLOWS OTHERS BENEFITS: *INTERNET WIFI ACCESS *

Right, okay. Nice that he doesn't mind the inevitable you get with couples, but perhaps the pudding has been egged to the point of weirdness. Just a translation thing, though. I'm sure he's not a creep. But what if I go alone?

**PACKAGE FOR SOLO INCLUDES: -A COMFORTABLE BED IN A SEPARATE ROOM WITH DOOR AND LOCKER TO ENSURE PLENTY OF INTIMACY AND PRIVACY DURING THE NIGHT. BED IS PROVIDED WITH : -SHEETS -BLANKET -PILLOWS -A LAPTOP COMPUTER -"FLESHLIGHT PUMPS" ,BOOKS,MAGAZINES,TV,VIDEOS AND SO ON...

Hmm, intimacy and privacy for someone on their own. Maybe he just means you'll get privacy and misused 'intimacy'. Did he just copy and paste from the couples' description and forget to take that bit out? Oh. Wait. Did I just read that correctly?

"FLESHLIGHT PUMPS"

OH DEAR LORD HE WANTS ME TO SIN IN HIS GUESTROOM.
