Re: Travel

Are there any parts of Europe that are not that cold in the middle of winter? I'm planning on traveling from November-February and would like to break up some of the crippling cold with some milder weather. What about the Greek Islands?

Turkey, Greece, Croatia, Southern Italy... they should all be pretty temperate still. Maybe not blazing hot, but it won't be cold.

Re: Travel

Going to Cuba for my holidays in November. After reading countless information on visa's and such, Virgin Holiday's reassured me that I didn't need one. Now, I wake up and find them saying I actually need a visa. Urgggh, more expense.

Did you get insurance for that? My insurance company told me they wouldn't insure me for Iraq, Iran or Cuba... pretty weird isn't it?

Re: Travel

I'm sorry but KL is not that nice. The rest of Malaysia is nicer. I'd pick Hong Kong.

Also, the train from KL to BK (is that what you were thinking?) is ridiculously hard to get, sells out really quickly, and it's like the same price to fly with air asia.

I get some with my bank, I need to check with them though where it cover, the plan only says Europe and specified countries.

Re: Travel

Well screw it. Once I get myself some money, I'm going to Hong Kong Disneyland.

Re: Travel

My dream travel at this moment is South Africa. Actually, Africa has been my obsession for quite a few years, but never managed to travel there. Besides that, I would really love to go to United Kingdom, Italy, Australia and France.

Not at all. Many insurance companies won't cover you in these countries, since they are considered "high risk" for particular reasons (usually internal conflicts). It's no different with Afghanistan, Chechnya, Syria, etc. In fact, if you check your own country government's travel info website, it will probably state that you should avoid travelling to these places. I just don't get why Cuba is in the list - apart from being a poor country, there's no issue going on there. Are you American? Or is your insurance company based in U.S.?

Off to LA in a few weeks. Anyone have any tips? Will I need a car?
Yes. L.A. traffic is a pain in the back, but on the other side, it's near impossible to move inside the city without a car (or knowing someone that has a car). Rent a car with GPS and you'll be fine.

Sorry that's what I meant, that Cuba being on the list is weird. I am from the UK. My dad recons its because the health care is really expensive in Cuba, don't know how much truth is in that?

Flights booked. Three weeks to go. Fuck yeah.

What did you choose in the end? Excited for you!

Thanks for the reply. I was actually hoping to use the Metro and taxis to get about as the thought of driving in a big city abroad scares the hell out of me.

Re: Travel

I got travel insurance with Virgin Money for £11, via Money Supermarket. It took milli-seconds to get it find it, guess it wasn't so hard getting insurance for Cuba.

In about five weeks I will be in the UK.

I am so nervous, I have never left the States, and I'm going alone!

To Hanoi, back from KL. I quite liked the idea of not having a direct flight back, and it'll be on those fancy planes people get excited about! I'll see you out there.

Now to sort out my malarials... What a hassle!

Re: Travel

Which ones did you get? I'm planning to opt for Malarone as they seem to have the fewest side effects. Bloody expensive though.
