So!

Ladies, I'm thinking thoughts. Thoughts are being thunk. I don't exactly hear The One in this crop of tracks, so lemme reserve my allegiance for now. You can tell MODHAUS is angling for 'Girls Never Die' to be a final contender with the cheering crowd sound + lalala sleeper cell activation phrase, but frankly she doesn't sound very interesting! 'Midnight Flower' exit stage left, and while we're at it @Jaden sell the track. 'Bionic Power' definitely I thought it was fun, I like the beat. 'Non Scale' is technically the best here for me, buuut I also don't see OT24 Title for her (and let's not kid ourselves she was always meant for tripleS and ShiOn's helium cartoon vocals complete the full fantasy, no it's true it's true). I know they have a secret weapon tucked away in Group 2. Got to be, got to be.

Ladies, I'm in despair. Seoul Vice is her, but I can immediately tell wavs do not have the vision to crown her. What do I have to do to rally these numbskulls into making the correct moral decision and not falling for obvious bait like 'Girls Never Die' and 'Atmosphere'!! Pencilling in a manic spiral in two days' time.

The way you knew Girls Never Die would win.

After having spent tons of time listening to their OT24 debut, I think it's their best album and "Girls Never Die" is their best title. I love every track on here (bar the weird version of "Dimension"). It feels like they're really playing to their strengths on each song too. "Heart Raider" and "Non Scale" are my favourite b-sides - they just fill me with serotonin. I'm very intrigued to see where they go from here next and wonder if these OT24 albums will become a yearly occurrence a la NCT.

I do enjoy 'Girls Never Die' as a culmination of the pre-OT24 era even though it seemed obvious and uninteresting at time of voting. The video is a masterwork, delivering exactly what was needed to elevate the song. It manages to pull off an incredible balancing act: tastefully handle the subject matter, build on the group ethos, showcase their charms as a 24-member collective and as individuals, and make it all look seamless and effortless. The one-winged angels on the rooftop whew we love a full circle moment. I knew we were in good hands when I saw that UNDERMOOD was returning. Oh Jiwon, the creative that you are. Please continue to work tripleS in the future! Pleek.

I'm kinda gagged by how this release has resonated with Korean non-fans, but I shouldn't be surprised. While tripleS have set themselves apart with their grounded, back-to-basics approach to worldbuilding, what's often taken for granted is their consistent recentering of Korea, Korean people, and Korean culture. Shooting on location in Seoul. Their deliberate selection of video extras. Hanja calligraphy in 'Cherry Talk'. Taekwondo in 'Invincible'. These choices contextualize Korea as part and parcel to tripleS and it's finally paid off. With the K-pop machine setting its sights on global mass appeal now more than ever, it's fascinating to read tripleS as a direct reaction to that. You can take the K-pop out of Korea, but you can't take Korea out of the K-pop.

And now's the part where I pretend like this is my diary. I made this thread on a whim two years ago and figured I'd follow through as its steward and promote the group with the little ways that I know how. tripleS aren't quite nugu underdogs anymore and overall the subforum likes them okay I think. Not bad, considering! While it's been fun larping as if I'm on their payroll, I'm stepping away from tripleSposting (and posting in general) for now. No more camping out on release day. No more tossing word salads. We cheered! Alas, the novelty of engaging earnestly in this fuchsia void wears thin knowing nobody's gonna match my freak. I can only hope my enthusiasm has rubbed off on the handful of you reading this and maybe helped you appreciate the art in a way you wouldn't have otherwise. I don't know. Was it worth it? Thanks for entertaining my frolicking. x

I have been catching up with the onslaught of releases from them and i finally listened Assemble 24 which is a very strong album with the heart of the album playing one after the other (that is White Souls Sneakers and Chiyu). I think they do shine best with these haunting mid tempos where things play to the girls charisma, aura and well, vocal abilities (also songs like Moto Princess, Seul Sonyo Sound etc.).

This new title track is however a bit of a miss for me. It gives budget Armageddon or Ate That without the ridiculousness, therefore a bit pointless of a left turn. Still have to listen the full album but i am genuinely curious where they will go now that we have two full albums and a huge catalogue in such a short life span now that the public is apparently taking a notice of them.

Close enough, welcome back NCT Vision! Joke and jest aside, when I say I knew the boygroup-averse girlies would be alienated based on the very first snippet nn. Because that's what this is, girl group does Boy Group but played 100% straight and in earnest. No twist of irony or tongue-in-cheek wink and nudge. It's not for everyone, and thank god for that! 'Hit the Floor' says Musica de boy group, yo me transformo. Yes, sometimes girls are boys.

It's unclear to me why 'Armageddon' has been floated around in comparison (this is not towards one person or even just this forum I promise x) which I'd attribute to a case of shared myopia. And I will continue to empathize when the people reflexively reach for NCT because ha impact and the song is structurally steeped in SMisms; the mishmash frankensong fantasy, the eye-of-the-storm bridge. It certainly exists comfortably in that universe. As a lapsed nctzen I can feel the laser targetting that specific region of my hypothalamus, yet to me it cleaves closer to RIIZE's 'Siren' and more recently ARrC's 'dummy'. Now is 'Hit the Floor' a revelatory piece of art or gender commentary? Well no. It all hits the eyes and ears with familiarity, but I see the value in playing faithfully in this familiar toolbox, doing so with aplomb, while still maintaining brand coherence. At any rate, it's already getting more spins from me than 'Girls Never Die', so let's celebrate that.

Those that can't stomach the title can rest assured, there are girl's girls somewhat girls songs to enjoy elsewhere on <Performante>. 'Choom', 'Éclair', 'Vision' are all excellent additions to their repertoire. 'Bionic Power' definitely I thought it was fun, I like the beat. I even like '12 Rings' despite its syrupy sweetness, 'Oui' wishes. My favorite here is the brilliant, soaring 'Love Soseol':

PS. There were whispers of 'Seoul Vice' being on here. The lies, the lies! The trepidation will continue to stir in my heart. Please do right by her @MODHAUS. For me.
