To be honest Downtown suits Children in Need better as a song.

I don't think they give much of a shit what fits and what doesn't. Something New, anyone...?

Anyway, as I said in my commentary, anyone who dislikes Dannii's He's The Greatest Dancer clearly hasn't listened to the Fugitive mix. It sits proudly as the first track on my D playlist. It's that good.

How the frig is Coconut still in this??

Cos it's fantastically demented.

They then opted for Downtown by Emma Bunton instead...

Fucking twats.

The only one I've been bothered about so far is Love's On Every Corner. She should do a 2016 update ...

"Love's on every corner, giving me teas, giving me teas ..."

It's clearly the best Get Into You single. I think it was kind of thrown to the wolves after the tepid response to shitty old Show You The Way To Go, although they clearly had faith in it to restore her to the top 10 after that dud. Still, had it followed This Is It I think it would have gone at least top 20 here in ol' Blighty.

I'm glad Get Into You and This Is The Way are gone. Derivative tosh at its worst.

I Can't Sleep At Night and Don't Wanna Lose This Groove next out please!!!

Any ideas then?

A bit of a controversial single...

22. Coconut - 6.19

Probably the most divided single in this rate, apparently you either love this or hate it. Surprisingly, for someone who is a fan of Kylies more left field songs such as Nu-Di-Ty, GBI and Mr President I'm not really a fan of Coconut, maybe I just haven't listened to it enough? Who knows. Anyway this Australian only single was originally recorded and released by American singer songwriter Harry Nilsson in 1971 reaching number 8 on the Billboard hot 100. Dannii released her version in 1998 managing number 62 in Australia. This song had 9 scores under 3 and 15 scores over 8 showing its divided fan base on popjustice.

Commentary

What the fuck is this?! Such a batshit crazy hot mess. The definition of "so bad it's good" but loses a point for the sudden halt during the middle 8, but at least it recovers fairly quickly. Someone pass me the poppers. @Mikey1701

You're kidding, right? @roblognick

WHAT a bop. The slowed down part is iconic. @Up Down Suite

This absurd. I love it. @SloMover

Well this is a bloody bonkers, but brilliant cover, isn't it? @Remorque

This is absolutely bonkers, but in a good way. @SophiaSophia

Dannii's GBI, a slice of bonkers electronics which is just so out there you have no choice but to go along for the ride, the climactic "DOC-TAH!" Is a thrilling pop moment. @idratherjack

This one of the best vocal deliveries Dannii did. I am bopping here. @Sprockrooster

Or ebony was listening to "Raspberry Swirl" that's for sure. When it comes to the lyrics, is this an Aussie thing I don't get it? I like the drop though, it's got a nice kick up its arse and hats off to Dannii for releasing such a mind fuck for a single. @plasticFANTASTIC

BONKERS!!!! Love both this version and her original mix from 1995 too. That bit where she literally screeches out "DOCTOOOOOOOOR!" Man, this is so cool. Wish the UK had a single of this but hey ho. @WhatKindOfKylie?

I loved discovering that Dannii had a kooky side. This works very well and she actually sounds invested. Love this. @Andsov

The insanity of this gets it awarded approximately two extra points as the song itself is no great shakes. The production and Dannii's gleefully demonic delivery are what elevates this to above average. @bichard

LOVE LOVE LOVE this. It's weirdness could have well worked as a 2nd single for the album (that or Someone New were the clear hits). It's breakdown still gets me going after several years of grooving to it. I remember quite vividly falling in love with Dannii's discography at the same time I discovered Kylies GBI - imagine the mindfuck of those times. @Txetxu

Horrendous. @Rooneyboy

Not one I often go back to, and listening again I remember why. It's good when it's fast but the slowed down bit is annoying. @Booers

Amaze me, queen of hidden tracks! It's a bit of a crazy song but it works so well. Light Years vibes. @One Stop Candy Shop

I have no doubt I will be the only person giving this my 11 and that it will leave around #19. But I don't care it's INSANE. Its the sound of a song having fun with itself, it's like her and Trouser Enthusiasts got drunk on bubbly in the studio and tried to out-cheese each other. When her voice gets higher around 3:50 I get my life. Those TRUMPETS. Kylie obviously tried to do something half as good with "Mr President" and failed. @Ray

I don't like this and I write this as someone who likes coconuts. @mrdonut

Highest score - 11 x 1 @Ray 10 x 5 @One Stop Candy Shop @Txetxu@idratherjack @SophiaSophia @Remorque
Lowest score - 0 x 1 @phoenix123
My score - 5

Now I don't hate the thing, but it's also the most random thing I've ever encountered. Dannii probably got a bit pissed with the drag queens at Mardi Gras and opted to cover this ditty.

I remember seeing 'Coconut' as a new entry in the Australian top 100 on an email list that used to send it out weekly, and wondering what on earth a song named Coconut, let alone by Dannii, could possibly be about. I didn't hear it until New Year's Eve '98, about a month later, and thought it was quite an unusual song for her to do, which I think works in its favour.
