I do think 'artist born in 1988' is the wrong tree to be barking up. The clues said a 'callback' to 1988 didn't they? Surely that means it has some connection (either personal or word association) to the UK entry or maybe even the contest in general that year?

Honestly I think it’s the fact 1988 was the last time we sent a Scottish act to the contest, so I think we’re getting a Scot this year.
The clues don’t point to them at all but i’ll be disappointed in anyone other than Jessie J, Paloma Faith, or Beth Ditto.
The tact of having an act who 'previously produced hits that voters would know but haven't in quite some time' has scarcely worked for any country let alone the UK but selecting a strong vocalist would be a nice change.
People use the word “wild” to describe literally anything and everything. I don’t think that’s a part of the clue personally.

Spaceman had been out for 3 weeks or so prior to it being announced as our entry so there is precedent for that approach.
That being said I can’t imagine Ellie would touch this with a barge pole.
Although I’d love for it to be Jessie J, I think the fact that Sam Ryders manager was enlisted to find this years act shows that they are looking for someone more unknown, probably a similar profile to Sam.
Franz Ferdinand have a new album out today, they're Scottish and have two songs over 100m on Spotify.
Seems like the kind of artist the BBC might go for.
