UK Entry 2025

At this point I just want someone who can sing live. If the BBC can get that part down maybe we can move forward on finding a winning song. So this has potential even if I'm not that into the track itself.

It does verge onto the very quirky side of Eurovision that gets votes because of it getting a viral moment, but I doubt Franz Ferdinand would be down for it. I've always thought they were too 'cool' but you never know.

Actually they've (or at least Alex Kapranos, the only original member) alway been very plugged in to camp and pop culture in general. So I think he's aware of how good Eurovision can be.

They're on a bit of a resurgence at the moment with a new album so it'd be perfect timing for them promo-wise, and also looks like they've got about a month long gap in their touring around Eurovision.

Bop!

I was just listening to Hooked today thinking it sounded super Eurovision, and it also sounds like nothing else on its album. Yeah I’m convinced it’s the entry, why not

They were asked to write a song for Greece for 2005, but I guess it worked out the way it was supposed to. I’m not linking to Twitter but Alex confirmed it.

I hate that I was just coming here to say that I cracked the code in terms of Hooked by Franz Ferdinand being a really strong option for Eurovision this year, just to realise this thread already came to that conclusion.

And a quote to prove I am the Franz Ferdinand stan on the forum, who called Hooked being the best thing on the album long before this post.
New album out today.

Hooked is one of the best things they’ve released in years - but the rest of the album just feels a bit paint by numbers.

It’s not bad, by any means. It’s just another collection of Franz Ferdinand pop/indie anthems. Other than Hooked, there doesn’t seem to be anything new or different in here - which is a shame, because they have always experimented a bit release by release. First new album in 6 years though, I’ll take it.

I’m pretty convinced of our theory and think the reveal will come during The Traitors finale on the 24th of the month - not really sure how but it could be camp!

Hooked doesn’t have the drama/big moment needed to do well at Eurovision (sorry).

It’ll be a bit frustrating if we go for a catchy pop song that stays mostly on one level again.

What we need for Eurovision is big vocals and/or songs that surprise/has a moment or element that stands out.

It also doesn’t really match with what David May said he was looking for (outside of authentic act): “We want to collaborate with an authentic act who has a genuine, heartfelt story to tell, and an unmatched vocal tonality and range. Ultimately we're looking for a powerful three-minute performance that resonates with and moves audiences across Europe and beyond”

Ew that sounds like a ballad. I hope not.

KT Tunstall is Scottish and has just two songs over 100m streams.

Please no. I suppose it could be Sandy Thom or Amy McDonald to tick the Scottish box which would be even worse. We have some brilliant, exciting Scottish acts who would be so much better.

That Franz Ferdinand song is... fine? Like it's nice enough and a good track (agree it's the high point of the new album) which I could see people liking and streaming, but it goes absolutely nowhere from beginning to end which was a pretty major issue with our last two entries being one level. The lack of build and 'moment' in a song with a strong and dependable live vocalist needs to be tackled this year if we actually want to connect with the juries and on the night casuals and get some proper points. It also doesn't have the sort of immediate catchiness to it as acts like The Roop created in a similarish lane.

If it is our track it's going to get lost and forgotten among other entries very quickly on the night I fear.
