UK Entry 2025

Agreed, but as Lachispa proved last night, quality of song is not always equivalent to quality of performance. Let's hope this act has at least been tested live...!

My wish right now would be something solid that gets us on the left hand side of the scoreboard. We can never just have a nice result!

I feel like so many countries can end up 5 - 15 most years, this probably isn't correct, but just to finish Saturday night feeling like Europe enjoyed our entry and we can be pleased with the outcome, would be so nice.

Rather than the immediate dissection of all the reasons why we have bombed again.

In twenty years we've been on the left side 3 times, and top 5 twice. 12 of those years were bottom 3!!

It's a shocking record that we need to improve.

I would rather get a great performer with a just-ok song over a good song with a bad performer. Obviously we want all of the ingredients but when it comes to the UK beggers cant be choosers.

This is my issue with the BBC in recent years: apart from with Sam Ryder, they seem to focus on just one element. To do well you need all 3 of: great vocals, and song that stands out, well performed.

And decent staging. Honestly, I swear we cheap out on that.
I don't know if I'd agree. Olly's must have cost a fortune? Sam Ryder's was crazy. Lucie Jones also was elaborate. Even Surie had a huge prop.

Mae's was simple but really what else could have been done? I'm usually quite confident in our staging.

(we don't talk about 2021)

Olly's seems the only one in recent, where it looks like they put effort.

I feel like our staging is bare minimum or not used effectively. Simple is fine when you have a great singer and performer e.g. Sam Ryder and Lycie Jones as you pointed out.

Surie's staging just didn't work for me, was bland.

2019 - Michael Rice = Fireworks?
2016 - Joe & Jake - Neon lights on cubes, DJ (cute photos on the floor stage)
2015 - Eletric Velvet - Stairs, dancers and light clothing.
2014 - Molly - live band and firework backdrop

Olly’s clearly had some budget and thought behind it but the concept was better suited to a music video than to a live Eurovision performance. You could tell there wasn’t any connection with the live audience which made the performance seem flat.

Sam Ryders performance whilst effective could have been so much better if he was stood on a platform that raised at the climax of the song. Instead the structures surrounding him just kind of flopped down which felt a little underwhelming, especially when the song sounds so epic and his vocals are so good. The lighting was admittedly beautiful, I just think having no elevation moment in a song about flying in space was a missed opportunity.

I feel like Nemo is a great recent example of getting everything right. Amazing song, vocals, performance, and staging / concept.
