UK Entry 2025

Yeah I agree. My blind optimism for the UK to do well can't mask it being a sub-par song. Occasionally it comes on the playlist and I do enjoy it, loud in the car is great, but I would never seek it out.

There is 100% potential for it to be transformed on stage though. Already we have the evidence that a stellar vocal show is incoming. Match that with bold creative staging, and a bucket of charisma, and this could really be a fantastic entry.

This song continues to send me. “Someone lost a shoe” with that really emotional vocal. “It was time to unwind and I volunteered”?? The Americanism of “no clue” is also really jarring.

I'm not sure bad lyrics have ever held a Eurovision song back, not least when for most of the audience English is at best a second language. For me it feels like its been written expressly for a one-listen Eurovision performance. It manages to not be formulaic, and to surprise you and keep you guessing, and has an effective hook that comes early on in the song. I won't be listening to it in 6 months but that's not what it's for.

Wowzers! So good I thought someone had dubbed the studio recording over it at the start.

Sadly still can't get fully on board with the song though - I can't unhear melodic elements from
Billy Joel's My Life and Vengaboys' Shalala Lala
but they truly deserve a result if the vocals are half as good as this on the night.

Only in the choruses. It's noticeable from the compression and how padded out it sounds. There's definitely more than three voices, but the main vocals are all still the girls, though, who sound great.

Arguments about it doing well or not always make me laugh because ultimately nobody knows, it's so so difficult to predict

But every year makes me laugh when it's a variation of

With the right staging, this could do well
With good vocals, this could do well
With a chartified remix, this could do well
With a promo tour, this could do well

Every song we do should be hitting these ff

Yeah I mostly agree: with uk entries outside of Sam Ryder in recent years, there’s always been a key element missing, leading to the “if they can just tweak the choreography/vocals”. It’s like the bbc focus on one key element (catchy song/famous pop star/amazing vocals) but forget the full package.

But re predicting: I do think there is a pattern where when there is a big moment live, it can transform an OK song into a contender.
