I know you're not talking about Goldstone, the winners of Kazakhstan's The Voice of Astana in 2018.Remember that girl band who sang in one of the selection shows (maybe SuRie's year) who screwed it and then admitted they'd never done a single performance together beforehand!? A testament to how bothered the UK was about it.
Jegend J would be a guaranteed slay vocally, so I think she's a great option on that alone.
Given everything we know (and love!!!!) about her though I just think she'd think it was way beneath her, unfortunately, even if her own career's barely keeping its head above water nowadays.
I feel like the challenge the uk has had in the last 2 years is to get slightly distracted by the previous year but forget a few key things (mostly the importance of an extraordinary live vocal).
In 2023, I think they maybe looked at Chanel’s success the year before, and thought “girl bops can win” and then went with upbeat girl pop, misunderstanding slightly that the reason Chanel did so well was phenomenal live singing combined with non-stop choreo. And then for 2024 I think they looked at Loreen’s success and thought “radio pop songs can win” and went with a catchy pop song, forgetting that Loreen did so well because of phenomenal live singing combined with dramatic staging (plus a big emotional song).
So based on that, in 2025 we should expect from the uk a rap/pop/opera genre defying mix of a song, but probably missing the extraordinary live vocal acrobatics that helped make Nemo’s performance so striking.
(Basically, please think about live vocals BBC…)
I am fascinated in what they'll do, Eurovision really felt like a non-entity this year once it was done... little to no impact whatsoever whereas I felt the Loreen/Kaarija hype kept the train going a bit longer last year.
Oh really? She does have a good voice doesn’t she.Looks like the Becky Hill 2025 rumour is in full swing. Could definitely get behind that
