UK Eurovision Entry 2016

  1. Can anyone remember how the Ukraine song goes? Anyone?!

Nope! I remember there was a lot of red lighting coming out of her - made it look like her time of the month. The song only won because of the political undertones. The fact it's no where to be seen on any European itunes chart speaks volumes. Compared to Mans last year who was all over everywhere!

  3. How I long for another Loreen style banger to win!

The rest of Europe was robbed! Robbed I tell you.

  6. It is a mockery really when something that has no discernible melody or hook wins a song contest, especially given the high standard of most countries this year.

Exactly the UK was never going to win but there were a lot of good songs this year and for that rubbish to win with an artist who really rubbed me and everyone up the wrong way everytime she opened her mouth and even worse when she "performed" is a kick in the face and in my eyes a set back for Eurovision.
Friends I had in the arena in Stockholm said there was a general air of shockedness when the winner was announced.

  8. I'm not surprised. I gasped when Dami lost in the last 5 seconds!

It really left me with a bad taste in my mouth and put a downer on an otherwise brilliant night.

Exactly, it felt like an anti climax - add to that a set of rowdy friends who thought it was fine to talk through the entire thing and I too had a bad taste in my mouth - next year I'm staying in, alone, with the dog! I would have been happy with an OZ win as the song was great (it was no heartbeat or sergey but still great!)

  10. Political songs are banned so it's strange that a song called '1944' was allowed, considering it was a year completely dominated by World War and obviously politics.

  11. I have to confess I don't know too much about the political situation between Russia and the Ukraine but having read a few things over the last couple of days I don't think it should have been allowed either. Doesn't explain the public vote going her way unless that was a dig at Russia too.

I honestly think it was - however Russia won the public telephone vote so clearly everythings just a buggers muddle in Europe!

http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/the-uk-s-highest-charting-eurovision-stars-revealed-__3038/ is an interesting read - I had no idea how badly the UK entries had done on the UK charts over recent years. God bless Gina G! Be interesting to see where J&J end up.

  13. I can see why Ukraine's song picked up public votes. The world is a tense place right now with the immigration crisis and terrorism etc, so you can see why a song with the "humanity cries" theme appealed.

It doesn't make it fair though if the one political song in the contest automatically gets votes because it relates to people on that level.

  14. I responded on a far deeper emotional and intellectual level to Spain's cry of Say Yay!

  16. Be My Guest! There was a tune!

  17. I still love the winning song, come to think of it there was not one song in the final that I outright dislike.

J&J are on rylans show tonight - get that promo guys! Currently at #34 on iTunes but still the highest Eurovision song on there.

  19. It's nice that they've still got promo lined up. I just hope they don't expect too much from their post-Eurovision career. They've said a view times that they're working with Sony on new music but I can't see it taking off.

I presumed they were just signed up on a one song deal. With the "success" of the single I doubt they'll be getting a second.
