UK Politics: General Despondency

Also that Red Tory dickhead Ian Murray coming out with the “finding workable solutions” and “addressing legitimate concerns” bullshit. The bill has only been 6 years in the making for these so called ‘concerns’ to be addressed and this is coming after his party voted for it on an overwhelming majority in Scotland.

I really hope Labour voters start to see just how hypocritical and rotten to the core the party is. Especially in Scotland, where it’s Union Jack above all else.

Scotland needs out of the Union ASAP and England need a real alternative, because this current version of Labour is just not it.

I don't understand why people are coming for me. I hate the Tories. I hate Starmer and his Labour party. My question was who do we vote for not who we're not voting for.

If we just vote Green (although I think even the Green party has some terfs?) and Lib Dems then we'll forever have a Tory government. This system sucks.

Luckily, I've mostly lived in places where the Tories don't stand much of a chance so I have been able to vote for who I really want. However, if I lived somewhere where the Tories were going to get in then I would vote tactically including for Labour. I hate what Labour has become and stands for under Keith but the main goal right now is getting the Tories out. So what other option do we realistically have?

This is why it's so frustrating that the major parties smeared the alternative vote referendum back in 2011. It would have been a great opportunity for us to actually vote for the party we best align to rather than tactically and essentially ending up in a two party race for government.

Fuck the Lib Dems for letting the Tories do a referendum on a shit alternative to FPTP. The Tories have now changed the voting system in mayoral elections with no referendum so at least there can be no argument the change has to be subject to a referendum.

Can’t wait for cis “””allies””” to talk about this for like 12 more hours before settling back into their nice cozy never-ending debate about how ethical it is to buy Hogwarts Legacy and telling actual trans people we’re pick-me’s and bootlickers just for pointing out that boycotting one commodity item won’t do shit

This. I’m real sick of the fast turnaround of ‘Allies’ forgetting about everything 12 hours later because then it’s an inconvenience to their life. I go to every trans rights protest I can, I speak at every protest I can, because my life depends on it. No friend that self-professed themselves an Ally has ever once came to even consider my safety or anybody else’s. They’ve never marched alongside, held my hand when I broke down on stage in the summer speaking about our rights. They’ve never replied to TERFs piling on me on social media (and frankly, I don’t need them to) but the fact I don’t need them to, is immaterial.

So lemme just take this moment to say, if anyone reading this calls themselves an Ally to the trans community, ask yourself what you did to appoint that Allyship. Do you check in on the trans+ folx in your life (if there even is any, because dd too many just stick to other cis white men) and do that not just when there’s threats to our rights and existence, but because that’s what someone ought to do. Stop telling us “we’re so strong, we can fight this too” because, frankly, we are tired of fighting alone. And lastly, I promise you, that performative hashtag with a pouty photo of yourself attached to it from two years ago doesn’t mean a thing.

ITV platforming two opponents to the reform and not pushing back on Sodha’s distortions. I’ve complained about this to Ofcom for all the good that will do:

A deep fucking sickness runs through the UK.
You're concerned about people's safety? Fine then, publicly condemn the met and the rest of the filth.
Then throw the royal family into jail. All of them. They all stood by and watched while Andrew saviled his way through the last 40 years.

These Tories on the other hand, they have stains on their souls.

I cannot even put into words my anger over this. I've been trying to put my thoughts on this down for days but I just feel anger at the state of the UK.
I am truly fucking done with this union, and done with Labour. Keith and any supposed LGBTQ "allies" that continue to come out to defend him at every turn can get to fuck.

My question was who do we vote for

I think their point is that participation in electoral politics is not always meaningful, and that demanding people's continued participation in it, without being able to articulate actual material benefit in doing so, ends up looking more like ritualism.

And that the reflex of "well then who DO we vote for??" frames interest in electoralism as a self-esteem project rather than analysis of how to improve the quality of life for different people.

Like sometimes "no one" IS an indeed correct answer!

Who do you think trans people in England should vote for now that most English politicians have largely showed themselves to be transphobic? Is a trans person wrong for refusing to support a political organization that wishes to harm them?

100% this. We are run by a group of incompetent, lying, degenerate money men. None of them give a shit about the politics of helping people, it's all about £££ and maintaining their own power positions. And we don't have an actual opposition party - Labour are a disgrace, Starmer is clueless on so many issues . I've never felt this kind of political despair before.

Fingers crossed the courts find in favour of the Scottish government. This is deeply unpleasant and opportunistic behaviour, but what can we expect from the desperate Tories?
