Sanctuary is such a cute unassuming debut single but then I remember she was barely 16 when it came out.. Wig! Lessons to Be Learned was one of my comfort albums back in middle school, what an era!
Shake It Off is my fave Mariah song, glad it's not forgotten! Shape has a stunning video, though I always find myself wishing I could mute Sting ddd

THE CALL | BACKSTREET BOYS

For the first few years after I heard it I would probably have included this in my list. It’s one of THE defining songs of the Y2K Max Martin sound.

‘Shape’ always feels like an underrated Sugababes moment. Mutya in particular sounds gorgeous on it.

WE SHARE OUR MOTHER'S HEALTH | THE KNIFE

Voted By: @sfmartin

sfmartin commentary:
Karin and Olaf turning my world upside down with this blippy boppy delight. The Knife at their most upbeat. The Knife captured my soul with their music from the first time I heard this all the way through to Fever Ray. I adore how this song just layers on hook after hook reaches a mid-point, turns in on itself and replays all the hooks combined together.

WHAT'S GOING ON | CASEY DONOVAN

Voted By: @livefrommelbs
Year: 2004
Country of Origin: Australia

livefrommelbs commentary:
Casey Donovan won the second season of Australian Idol and absolutely deserved better from her label and the record-buying public. She had a beautiful voice, put to excellent use on this, her second single (written by The Veronicas before they'd blown in their own right). Fragile and angry in equal measure, it's a song I love dearly that I still give plenty of spins to, nearly 20 years after its release.

SANCTUARY | GABRIELLA CILMI

Voted By: @Crisp X
Year: 2007
Country of Origin: Australia

I'll always have a soft spot for Gabriella Cilmi. She was one of my gateways into pop music as a whole. In her debut, I ended being obsessed with this song and Sweet About Me. I was actually thinking about picking the latter for this rate instead, but I already had a very similar song in my ballot... one of which I hope will be safe for a long while!

I wonder what she's up to these days. I liked her recent EP but still wish she would get back to releasing stuff on a more regular pace. She deserves much better.
