The R.E.M. song is beautiful

Around The Sun became one of the more maligned albums in R.E.M.s discog, by both critics & the band. That's a shame, really. It's actually a pretty amazing album that really feels organically like a particular place & time to me in zeitgeist of the world...maybe more so than any album by the band. That's saying something.

From the aftermath of 9/11, to the reelection of Bush, to an aging band trying to figure out where they even fit into changing landscape of everything going in both the real world + the music industry .... the undercurrent of the album was more subversive than many other albums by band (and other efforts by their contemporaries). Maybe it was too subversive in some ways, so it came of slight? I don't know, but I love the album & 'Aftermath' has become a top 5 song by the band over the years, which is saying something.

Some other highlights from the album (a couple that I probably liked more in my earlier fandom of the album before Aftermath became 'the one'.)

FRIDAY I'LL BE OVER U | ALLISON IRAHETA

DJHazey Commentary:
The best teen-pop song of the decade, yet it’s one of the more recent ones I’ve discovered. First found it in the Max Martin rate back in like 2014 and I’d say it’s my favorite song in that entire rate now. Can you make a longer chorus that is 1000% catchy from start-to-finish? Nope.

HERE I GO IMPOSSIBLE AGAIN | ERASURE

Voted By: @VivaForever
Year: 2005
Country of Origin: England

I knew no one else would vote for this, but I had to. It's Erasure's most beautiful song, with their best lyrics and probably Andy's best vocals.

"How'm I supposed to know what's in your head, what's on your mind? I'm searching for your love that's in your heart - I need it... And here I go impossible again; should I hold you close to keep the night from ending?"

"I feel it my heart, and in my soul, and through my veins. Falling from my lips, three little words, 'I love you'."

It just captures the feeling of the early days of being in love with someone so well.
