4EVER | THE VERONICAS

Voted By: @Music Is Death (1) @livefrommelbs (16)
Year: 2005
Country of Origin: Australia

livefrommelbs commentary:
Give it up for my most played song on iTunes of all time! One of the premier examples of that soaring mid-00s pop-rock all the gals were serving up - and the fact that it was the debut of a brand-new, brilliant Australian act was just the cherry on top. I get such a rush when this one comes on. Blistering power-pop perfection.

"4ever" played in the background of a couple of movies so I kept thinking "I should check out the Veronicas". I didn't actually get around to it until around the time "Hook me up" came out because a user on this forum said their favourite love song was "I could get used to this".

Sadly I missed the "hook me up" tour so I didn't get to see them live in the UK until 2015. Covid has made seeing them difficult.

TAKE BACK | KODA KUMI

Voted By: @RUNAWAY
Year: 2000
Country of Origin: Japan
Appearance: 2nd

RUNAWAY COMMENTARY:
I don’t even know how to explain how much joy this song brings. As soon as it starts, it’s like...I’m a carefree teenager again. There are just songs that take you there, specific places in time, and this is one of them for me. I can’t even list the amount of times I’ve been feeling like shit only for this song to come on and completely change my mood. I’m so happy that I discovered Kuu-chan when I did, or else I might be a totally different person now.

IF YOU WANNA HAVE SOME FUN | SPICE GIRLS

Voted By: @saviodxl
Year: 2000
Country of Origin: England

saviodxl commentary:
The hit that never was! Had they released this amazing track as a single, I'm pretty sure this would've been a classic. Now a fan favorite, this R&B funky pop banger sees the Spice Girls surfing a sound that was very in vogue those days, but adding some spice to it. Yeah, I did that. The bass guitar sounds in the beginning are so inviting, Emma's ad libs in the final chorus just make me wanna melt, those 'wink wink nudge nudge' in the pre-chorus sung in perfect harmony are a bliss and the chorus itself it's sassy af, after all they were not that young anymore. Tik Tokers, do your job and bring this song some justice.

Ah, Take Back sounds like a classic of its era! Is Koda Kumi too big for PJ00s?

And Disturbia gosh! It took over my life when it came out. Predictably, the ooky spooky video was like catnip to my tween self ddd

(for the record, I'm aware I screwed up the alphabetical sorting but I'm too lazy to go back and fix it for the #3s, sorry!)
