MAGIC | LADYHAWKE

sfmartin commentary:
This nearly snuck past me but I was reminded how I listened to this song religiously when it was first released. I adore the explosive opening and the chorus is tremendous. One of my favourite openings to an album. Once again steeped in 80s electro nostalgia. The instrumental is very Depeche Mode.

THERE'S A PLACE | SIOBHÁN DONAGHY

Voted By: @Runawaywithme (16) @RUNAWAY (2)
Year: 2007

Appearance: 5th

Runawaywithme Commentary:
This song just melts me. It makes me so emotional it’s hard to listen to sometimes. Every element just feels so perfectly placed and Siobhan’s vocal performance here is literally angelic. There is something so magical in this song that it’s hard to describe… I’;d say just press play, shut your eyes and let Siobhan take you to another world.

Happy to see Murder On The Dancefloor getting multiple votes! I don't really have much to say about it that hasn't already been said. In my case, it was (yet) another song and artist almost lost to my childhood memories that I one day found again by scouring early 00s radio station playlists. It's a testament to its power that I could vividly remember not only the song but parts of the music video (alongside Get Over You) for more than a decade after its heyday. Its disco revival sound is perfected and pretty much timeless. The song hasn't aged a day at all, which is the sign of a true classic!
