JUST DANCE | LADY GAGA FEAT. COLBY O'DONIS

Voted By: @BubblegumBoy (20) @unnameable (8) @livefrommelbs (6) @soratami (5)
Year: 2008
Country of Origin: USA
Appearance: 6th (Lady Gaga)

livefrommelbs commentary:
Where it all began for Gagaloo! I wasn't sure if this would end up making my list, but by the time I'd sat with the longlist long enough it was pretty clear that this was of the musical high points of the late 00s. Besides birthing an icon, it set the tone for dance-pop du jour, was loved by just about everyone and was so insanely catchy. Hardwired to be a hit. From the second those synths come in and RedOne says 'haaaaay', you know you're in for a good time.

Whatever happened to Colby O'Donis? Anyway, I chucked points at this because back in 07 somebody posted to PJ a link to Lady Gag performing this at Miss World in Venezuela and the song was so catchy and Gaga had enough star quality I knew I wanted to follow what she did next. The Fame more than lived up to the hype.
That performance on the TV was the first I ever heard of her.

MANEATER | NELLY FURTADO

saviodxl commentary:
From the daunting screeching voice of the first few seconds of the song and that first "everybody look at me me" I knew this was gon be good! The seductive violent beat, catchy chorus and sexual tone just prove it! At the time you couldn't escape Timbaland produced tracks and some I really despise, but Maneater it's one of his best works! It was interesting to see the girl that was like a bird revamping her image and well, becoming a so called big pop girl at the time.

4Roses Commentary:
The drums, the revving synths, Nelly's ad libs; men weren't the only things she ATE!

Just Dance is the perfect introduction to the kind of popstar Gaga was, especially with the sound she was presenting at the time. It helped bring about a massive up-tick in dance-pop being the staple at the time (2008-2012). Though I think Poker Face and LoveGame hold up better 15 years later, it's still a massive pop song too.

Never was a huge fan of Maneater at all, or Promiscuous either for that matter. Give me her softer moments anyday, though I understand the appeal for the five voters here.

COME CLEAN | HILARY DUFF

livefrommelbs commentary:
In terms of artists I stanned the hardest for the 00s period, I don't think anyone else holds a candle to Queen Hilary. I owned every CD single and album. Every concert DVD. I saw her live twice and even adorned my school books with Hilary Duff book labels. Her posters were on my walls and her songs were permanently getting spun on my discman. That said, 'Come Clean' is the only track that made my top 20 (which i guess says more about the calibre of songs in the 00s then it does about how much I loved Hilary). While 'Why Not' and 'So Yesterday' were an exceptional one-two punch of early singles, 'Come Clean' was the business that showed she wasn't playing. And also proved that while her pop-rock contributions were exceptional, it's in the electro-pop space that Hils has always truly shone.
