SINCE U BEEN GONE | KELLY CLARKSON

Voted By: @Lost In Japan. (16) @GimmeWork (14) @Solenciennes (8) @Rogue (8) @WowWowWowWow (2)
Year: 2004
Country of Origin: USA
Appearance: 7th

WowWowWowWow Commentary:
Thankfully the 2000s was not 10 full years of people who had no business trying to sing this song at karaoke singing this song at karaoke.

Curious if there's any surprises left cause we definitely have entered the staples stage!

Well, one of the two artists I have left isn’t exactly known for setting the charts alight. Not sure if it’s considered a surprise that the song is still in, but I thought it would have left ages ago based on earlier eliminations (and the fact that it was always the same two people making up 90% of her thread back in the day, haha!).

One of our Dutch radio stations is currently doing a Top 1003 of Noughties songs people could vote for as well. They were playing the lower 800s this afternoon and The Fear and Black Coffee have already been booted out. Neither of them even managed to beat Gareth Gates and his stupid mistake…

I actually voted for that this week and was shocked by the voting list which missed out so many hits (like there was 1 Backstreet Boys single there?? But 5 Birgit Schuurman ones??)
Trying hard to think which act you could still have left!

I voted for that too, but of course I couldn’t hand in most of my actual favourites because there were only two “wildcard” options.
Shockingly I managed to actually vote for Siobhan Donaghy and two Goldfrapp songs, who were - in fact - on the voting list. Not that they have even the tiniest chance of making it in, though!

THE ONE / (FREEMASONS MIX) | KYLIE MINOGUE

Voted By: @Runawaywithme (19) @berserkboi (11) @klow (10) @Aester (8) @Verandi (2)

Runawaywithme Commentary:
This song makes me feel a way I can't quite describe but I just love. It’s like being taken to another galaxy by Kylie, the way it just builds and builds is the closest it feels like you can get to complete euphoria. From those opening synths, I’m just in awe and it feels like nothing else around me matters. Seeing this performed live as the sunset at Edinburgh Castle in 2019 was a life highlight. This is another song that has got me through some bleak times. Kylie just is a ray of infinite light this cruel world doesn't deserve and this song sums up that magic touch perfectly. In an ideal world, this was number one for ten weeks.

Fuck; I should've noted that my commentary/score was technically for the album version. But the Freemasons mix still bangs and is an audio masterpiece so I'll allow it (I also don't want to inflict going back over these scores on you ddd) this gem desveres it's tens!!! I'm glad it's done so well here! We really do have significantly better taste than the GP.

I had always intended to vote for the album version too, but perhaps the votes for the two were combined. "Love At First Sight" is probably unlucky to have missed out on my ballot but when I compiled it I think I thought "The One" might be more likely to miss out on a high placing on a list like this and so threw it sympathy points; how fortunately wrong I was!

Soz, lemme quickly edit the post (I am combining points for different versions of the same song by the same artist).

As we're reaching the point where I'll have to post multiple ballots per week, I'll be dedicating the weekends to that and proceeding with the reveals during the week (for now).

ALL THE THINGS SHE SAID | T.A.T.U

Voted By: @Rogue (19) @sfmartin (19) @4Roses (13)
Year: 2002
Country of Origin: Russia
Appearance: 2nd

sfmartin commentary:
The band and the promo are problematic as all hell but what a song. The band in general just delivered stone cold hit after hit. This song is just glorious. I don’t know another 4 min pop song that crams so much in. By the time we get to the “ mother looking at me” middle eight there’s been two verses, three choruses, outros, an electrifying instrumental, you have already been taken on an unforgettable journey. Even though their queer credentials have long since been destroyed, I was coming out just as this got released so the angst, guitars and bratty vocals all hit perfectly. I think the concept for the video still stands the test of time. Take away the gratuitous wet shirts and face rubbing, there is still something powerful regarding queer kids (trans, currently) being viewed by this persecutory, disapproving crowd, observed like prisoners behind bars.

4Roses Commentary:
The ultimate of angst anthems.
