I can’t imagine the remaining song(s) lasting much longer for that very reason, but I hope they can hang on in there for a little bit longer!

Damn, I shouldn’t have jinxed it!

What a song. Or rather, a journey. Not a single second of its runtime is superfluous, every part is as essential as the next. All of the girls shine on it, but Nicola steals the show for me. Makes you wonder what could have been if they hadn’t opted for a hiatus after this.

Fun fact: I may have mentioned this before, but I’m 99% sure this song was mentioned on Dutch national radio only once. They used to have an item where you had to link two different news items through one song and the two subjects that week were “robots” and “dancing”. Of course I submitted Untouchable along with the middle eight lyrics, which led to the DJ reading out those lyrics and praising me for coming up with something “quite impressive” and “really thinking this through”. Of course the gag is that I didn’t think anything through at all, it was just the obvious one that popped up in my head in a millisecond, hehe!

I was minding my business thinking that this rate is safe from a Carly or Charli win and then I realized that Britney is around the corner fff. If she wins this I hope it's Break The Ice at least.

Most iconic single of the 00s is probably Crazy in Love tho let's be real.

I reckon it won't be last time you see this duo lead the way.
Oh yes I look forward to it. (In the top 5.)

UNTOUCHABLE | GIRLS ALOUD

DJHazey Commentary:
Ever since I first started listening to this band, there hasn’t been a moment when this wasn’t my favorite song of theirs. It’d be hard to say it’s not my favorite song by a girl group, period. I might go further and say favorite ballad/power ballad/6+ minute song/etc. – From Nicola’s transcendent vocal to the middle eight that I wear on my profile page with pride, it all comes together to build that perfect masterpiece. The towering chorus, literally 40 stories tall, ascends to heights that no one could ever dream of reaching. I could sit here and spew descriptors all day, but somehow none of them would be able to do the song justice. So, I’ll stop and pray someone else picked it as their #1 Girls Aloud moment too cuz Lorde knows they have too many to choose from.

SEXY! NO NO NO... | GIRLS ALOUD

Voted By: @BubblegumBoy (19) @Untouchable Ace (17) @sfmartin (15) @Iggypig (3)

sfmartin commentary:
This isn’t my 11 in the Girls Aloud rate but I want to give this the best chance it has in this rate. 15 years on it’s lost none of its potency. That immaculate eerie vocodered introduction rocketing into a thunderous chorus that rips every follicle off your head. I would have love an extended version much like they did on the Tangled Up tour. It is always over too soon. I say the test of a great pop song is if the instrumental is just as enjoyable as the actual song and thanks to Xenomania Girls Aloud never fail to let me down on this front. It just never stops for breath. It is exhausting in the best way.

Everything has already been said about these songs and they will always be a part of me.
This was just too hard to pick.

1 Girls Aloud - Untouchable (album version)
2 ?
3 William Orbit, Sugababes, Kenna - Spiral
4 Girls Aloud - Sexy! No, No, No...
...

Again this is not comprehensive, this whole thing is just too difficult to do properly. Epecially when my top 20 would actually be mostly Girls Aloud and Sugababes.
It just goes to show that The Saturdays were not a sufficient alternative but just good enough.

Before you accept this can I just make sure that I can't replace any of the songs on my list with?:
Nicola Roberts - It's Magic

Thanks

Sorry, we're going by credits and It's Magic is officially by GA, so solo Nicola will have to miss out :(
So basically my real top 20 would be a bit different.

Thank you Popjustice for introducing me to (and constantly reminding me of) the brilliance of the Girls Aloud catalogue, most especially this one – the crown jewel in a discography full of gems.

Runawaywithme Commentary:
One of the greatest pieces of pop music ever created. A song that never fails to get me up and bopping. I expect this to rightly do very well here.

Year: 2002
Country of Origin: Australia
Appearance: 9th

4Roses Commentary:
The intro alone teleports me right back to 2002.

saviodxl commentary:
Euphoric thrills abundant, I just can't believe this was a woman in her thirties singing about falling in love just like a teenager, with a soothing yet sexy voice as we know. Eurodance and disco elements meet in a catchy and cute melody. If I could hug a song, I'd hug Love At First Sight really tight!
