I read this with Long Hot Summer playing in the background and late 2005 really was an exceptional time for pop albums.Slightly disappointed that this missed the top 10! Come and Get It was one of THE albums of the 00s and a bona fide Popjustice classic. It’s synonymous with this forum for me.
This rate taught me I love the vibe and sound of this so much that in my top 20 I have the original and the homage.I read this with Long Hot Summer playing in the background and late 2005 really was an exceptional time for pop albums.
(Or maybe they were just all more special to me because I got my first ipod so didn't have to pick between albums anymore?? But nah, Confessions, Chemistry, Come And Get It, PCD, Breakaway, Supernature, it does all feel very peak Popjustice)
You forgot Griffiths. Some Girls is an undeniable pop song. I didn't vote for it, so I suppose I did deny it, but it's a heavyweight of the genre and of the era. Rachel Stevens earned her spot among the pantheon of culture defining Rachels in the mid-2000s (Hunter, Greene, McAdams, Bilson) before the name nosedived with Platten, and for that we thank her and all the other important Rachels (Maddow, Weisz, the one I'm friends with now and the two I went to primary school with but not the one I went to secondary school with) for their contributions to our society. She did well to climb out of the wreckage of S Club 7 and, in my opinion, is the one bringing all the prestige into their reunions.
