Hello and welcome to- Ah, the 2010s. The decade of my fading youth. On January 1st, 2010 I was 21 years old. By December 31st, 2019 I was 31. My oh my how did the time fly by? Well besides finishing up university and taking on my first adult job, it passed listening to the amazing music of the 2010s. From the indie scene to the pop scene to the rock scene to the country scene to the k-pop scene to every scene, there was always something amazing to plug into my iPod/iTouch/iPhone using iTunes/Rdio/Apple Music. We've seen the "professionals" try to make their Best of 2010s lists, but its time for the real taste to begin. So let's create a list of our collective faves, because who could do it better than the posters on this pink hellscape? First some rules. Submit your 20 favourite songs of the 2010s - your #1 song will get 20 points and your #20 song will get 1 point. I'll tally up all the points and reveal the results in a countdown style. To encourage variety, there is a 2 song per artist cap. Solo artists are considered separate from their groups, and for my fellow unnies sub-units are separate from the main group. There are many ways to approach your list. Maybe you'll be strategic and pick the big singles or maybe you'll follow your heart and pick obscure faves. Either approach is acceptable, but personally I'm going to follow my heart. While this is technically a popularity contest, each song will get its time to shine and pick up new fans. We gotta get our faves those streaming coins, right? Another way to boost their coin? Participate in the sister album rate hosted by everybody's favourite musical encyclopedia @Ironheade. ADDITIONAL RULES Your song must have been released between January 1st 2010-December 31st, 2019. The only exceptions are: 1) Singles from 2009 albums that were officially released in 2010 (think Telephone by Beyonce and Lady Gaga), 2) singles from 2009 albums that peaked in 2010 or had significant chart presence in 2010 (think Tik Tok). If a song seems iffy I may consult with some of my friends to determine whether it can be accepted. 2009 album tracks are not acceptable, no matter how late into 2009 the album was released. You may only submit officially released songs. I don't want your unofficial demos, your leaked tracks, your unreleased Live Lounge covers. This is not negotiable, so don't even think about it Sugababes stans. You can vote for Flatline or Flowers. If a song is a collab between artists and the artist is only listed as featured, that still counts as being their song. You may submit commentary. It can be one word, one sentence, five paragraphs, whatever. I won't delete it, so be rest assured your time won't go to waste. The deadline to vote will be January 30th at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. I've already submitted my ballot, so what's your excuse?
