@sfmartin: This has to have a place on my list. Their come back in 2016 was tremendous and they had some fantastic songs. One Strike would have taken this one's place if it hasn't been released. I was nervous about how William Orbit and All Saints would sound after all these years but it was better than I could have imagined. The lyrics are beautifully devastating. A bittersweet nostalgia that permeates the whole track. The harmonies are exquisite as always and can be fully appreciated in the acoustic version that was released. The chorus already takes my breath away and I wasn't ready for the post chorus. My wig doesn't seem to matter after all. There is this intoxicating blend of harmonies and electronics it's supremely catchy, an absolute triumph.

  2. I see @ComeOnGloria did not vote. Gloria Estefan is such an international superstar and WEPA is such an anthem. Glad I could spotlight her!!

"Oh on mother earth I see the weather / so I'm not gonna cover up the freckles on my face"

    Voted By: @RUNAWAY (2) @Slice of Life (1)
    Release Date: September 30, 2016
    Country of Origin: United States

@RUNAWAY: I don’t really know if I can write about this song for a third time, but here we go. This song has been unjustly robbed and done utterly wrong in not one, but TWO rates now. The balladphobia is real on here, but with me, as you can see my list, I LOVE ballads. I live for a ballad, especially when the lyrics and vocal performance are also there. I don’t just love a slow song. It has to have meaning and substance, and this song has all of that. Heartbreaking lyrics, underrated vocal performance, acoustic instrumental that adds so much to the song, and more, and more. Even just the little voice cracks in the song add to the vulnerability of the performance, and made this one of my favorite songs of all time.

@Slice of Life: For my BANKS selection, I was torn between Mother Earth and the unfairly maligned Someone New. And even though I'm not the biggest fan of very poetic lyrics (I'm dumb I'm sorry mom), I just had to choose Mother Earth over the more straightforward storytelling of Someone New.

I was a lowkey BANKS fan during the Goddess era but really started rabidly stanning the good sis during The Altar. And Mother Earth was one of the biggest reasons behind that decision. Mother Earth, at least compared to most of The Altar, is more on the delicate side. The track is wonderfully produced. The guitar clashing with the million background voices just makes me ascend every single time.

And the meaning behind the song is gorgeous too. Miss Jillian said the song is about being a "wounded healer" and I just related to that a little too much. I guess I just couldn't help but offer a lending hand despite needing help too dddddd. Anyway, yes, I love Mother Earth.

Definitely knew a song from FROOT was going toward my ranking, but I went with Weeds instead of I'm A Ruin because the song has connected with me more recently, and I knew the latter would get enough representation.

I can't believe someone else voted for my 3 pointer woop woop!
  7. If anyone has the Prog-Roid album by School Food Punishment on their Spotify, please link me!
  8. My 3 pointer survived hopefully my 4 pointer can do the same too.

I thought View would get more votes I nearly considered it but I had to go for my absolute favourite by them.
  9. Oh heya @Sprockrooster, if you like Gloria, know she'll have four songs in the 80s rate so hopefully you will vote! #earlypromeaux
  10. And @DJHazey is so good to you, you’ll even have a song honouring her on the playlist too, @Sprockrooster! ;)

  11. It's blocked in the UK, but it's there, so hopefully it's available to play somewhere.

  19. I interrupt this moment between the fourth and fifth reveal to say that everybody needs to watch the BWU video if only for the stink-eye Tegan gives Sara.

Blood Orange Dev Hynes is one of the greatest songwriters of our generation. Easily. He's at his peak on Negro Swan. Full of rich guitar melodies and a gorgeous sax solo. Exhausted but a celebration..
