Victoria Beckham

Their Telstar singles were selling very well though? All four singles went Top 10 the first three even being Top 5 UK hits. Why would they not give them more singles?
Even their album did well and probably cost 99p to make.

That wasn't Telstar
Their mother also wrote all their songs. I never thought I'd be in here defending the Cheeky Girls but they were quite successful on a shoestring budget.

And then a year later you had artists like Nelly releasing two albums simultaneously with two different vibes so Victoria could’ve effectively have done the same (pop album and rnb album).

Remember when Shania released three (!) versions of the same album with different mixes...

Yeah a bit ridiculous to shit on Cheeky Girls when they sold well, cost zero and worked their asses off. Blame that Claire woman @JMRGBY mentioned instead. The Cheeky Girls also suffered from Telstar's downfall as they were owed a lot of money.

Open Your Eyes is one of the best solo Spice albums. Fact.
It is the best. Literally wall-to-wall bops and I revisit it way more than any of the other girls efforts

Open Your Eyes, I Should Have Known Better, Bitter Sweet, Flow, Me Without You, Be With You, Full Stop and of course the alternative mix of Let Your Head Go = all could have been singles and deserve better than being left on the cutting room floor

I couldn’t agree more with this. Even though the album was never officially released, I revisit these songs more than any other solo Spice effort. She could’ve had a hit pop album on her hands.

It still irritates me so much that Let Your Head Go/This Groove wasn't a flop at all and actually peaked at #3, but it was paid dust. If an album had materialised out of the earlier pop stuff that leaked, whilst I doubt it would have changed the world, she would have easily gotten a top ten (or even five) album out of it.

Wasn't it released in the week after Christmas, though, so that the sales were dismal?

While that was meant to be a quieter week indeed, it still sold 29k on week 1 and only dropped to #7 on week 2. It was definitely more successful than her previous 2 releases, also considering the dip in sales between 2001-2002 and 2003-2004.

I am sure the allegations at the time played a massive part in her decision to quit music altogether. She wouldn't want to put herself in the position of having to navigate through dozens of interviews potentially bringing it up, while promoting a new single. My Love Is For Real was scheduled for an April 2004 release as per her Marie Claire cover story at the time.

Is the version of "My Love Is For Real" actually the completed song or just a demo? As it seems to have few words that repeat a lot so I wondered if it was meant to have additional verses but never got finished.

Would also love to know the story of how Let Your Head Go went from this to the more subdued version we ended up getting. I guess this was considered too poppers o'clock for a single release but good god it completely blows the official mix out of the water for me.

She should’ve catwalked to this version instead for her solo in RETURN OF THE SPICE GIRLS.

I would love if Victoria went and surprised us all and released a limited vinyl release (let’s say between 3,000 - 5,000) copies of her second album: ‘Come Together and Open Your Eyes’.

With such a small release, it would sell out and prove successful, plus we would get an entire double vinyl LP of all her songs during this era.

Surely Vicky B owns the masters and rights to her songs, no?
