Video Games

He/Him
I thought since the video games market is booming that I'd start a videogames thread.

So who here plays video games?
What consoles do you have?

I've been playing video games my entire life and I want to be a games designer. The first game I ever played was Robocop on the Commodore 64 but the game that changed it all was Super Mario Brothers. Super Mario Brothers 3 is to this day, the best game I have ever played.

I just finished Folklore for PS3 and its a fantastic game. Normally I don't like games so story driven but this was brilliant! I'm also playing Okami on Wii but haven't gotten very far yet.

Super Mario Galaxy is fucking immense!

I own or have owned:
Nes
Snes
N64
Gamecube
Gameboy Advance
DS
Wii
Playstation
PSP
Playstation 3

EDIT: JANUARY 2019

Feel free to add your PSN/Switch etc codes here so other PJ members can add you.

Super Bomberman on the SNES is my favourite game of all time. Super Mario World is a close second. It should also be noted that I've completed expert difficulty Minesweeper in 119 seconds.

I can't even do Minesweeper in general.

I'm really looking forward to the next Zelda on DS, Spirit Tracks.

I remember being so angry with myself when playing Phantom Hourglass as it told me to copy the map from the top screen to the bottom and I couldn't find out how. So I gave up, closed my DS and when I went back to it, the map had been switched as closing the DS was how to do it.

Genius!

*ahem* I used to be a complete geek and over the past 20 years have owned:

Amiga
Master System
Megadrive
Saturn
Dreamcast
Game Gear
SNES
n64
Gamecube
Gameboy (original and Pocket)
Gameboy Advance (original, Micro and SP)
DS (original and Lite)
Wii
Playstation
PS2
PSP
XBox
360

I don't have all of that anymore! The worst thing is for a lot of those I've had PAL, American and Japanese machines at the same time because I used to play a lot of imported games. I never owned a Neo Geo or PC Engine, though *sadface*

Favourite games of all time are Super Mario World, Mario Kart 64, the Ocarina of Time, Panzer Dragoon Saga, X-Men v Street Fighter, Tales of Symphonia and Ikaruga.

I don't really play much these days, in the past I'd spend hours a day playing RPGs or FPS games, but I don't have the attention span or the interest for it these days. Tend to play more immediate things that I can pick up and put down easily.

I just bought Street Fighter IV, but I think I need an arcade stick to get the most out of it because the 360 pad is awful for 2D fighters.

My favourite ever game is The Sims.

I just bought Sega Mega Drive Collection for my Xbox 360... that I haven't got yet. *anticipates payday*

Over the years I've had a Commodore 64, Nintendo, Sega Mega Drive, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Playstation 2 and X Box 360. I was really into the Playstation a lot, loving the Resident Evil and Silent Hill games. I have the new ones on the Xbox 360, they are great but not as good as the older games.

I love games like Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row, I think Saints Row 2 has the edge in all of them. Got into The Sims big time at one point, played it ALL day to the point I got sick of it. Now I can't even look at it.

Also, I'm quite good on Guitar Hero.

Believe me, the worst thing you can do is try to revisit childhood games! Leave them as memories and they will be forever stored as amazing games! I made the mistake of buying EA compilation for PSP and it had some of my fave games from childhood on it and now I realise they were actually shit! BAD TIMES!!

I can't resist the chance to go back and play them again though. Plus, I want to hear the music again! Apparently to promote the Sega collection there were 1000 vinyl soundtracks made with the video game music on it. I would die for one of those.*

* Maybe not die.

I don't blame you one bit, the temptation is always too much but just thought I'd warn you! I think I'm just bitter as they came out and retailed at like £30 and I bought them, within a week they went down to like £15, now I don't think they can give them away! l ol

I got one of those cheapo all-in-one meagdrive things for like 15 quid or something, amazing classics like Echo the Dolphin and Sonic, played it for about a week then got bored.

Streets of Rage, though, that's another story! Blaze was FIERCE

YES!! Completely, I remember Ecco the Dolphin being like the best game ever, then I played it for about 10 minutes and completely lost interest!! I think the only good thing about those compilations is that you can save your games at any point so things like Sonic you can get all the emeralds in the first 2 levels cos you can just keep replaying the rounds until you get them all.

Streets of Rage, excellent game but still may get bored of it! Its one that I have yet to revisit...

I bloody love computer games! I've owned:

Commodore 64
Amiga 600
Playstation
Playstation 2
Nintendo DS
Xbox 360

I'm usually very behind in terms of consoles but I recently bought an Xbox 360 which is strangely modern for me! Saying that, I do tend to play games on all kinds of consoles. I've just playing stuff on my Amiga emulator so I can't agree what's mentioned above about old games not being good, it's not true!

I think they're such an interesting subject, in terms of change over time and just the way that the market has expanded so quickly. I do think it's sad that with a new generation of consoles it's easy to lose a lot of the previous stuff. It's not like music.

I've just finished Folklore on my PS3 and I'm either going to play Ratchet and Clank or Sonic Unleashed next.

I'm still stuck on Advance Wars on my DS! The last level and I can't do it! Bad times.

I'm currently playing Mass Effect and Lost Oddysey. I'm a mahoosive RPG fan.

I'm a big RPG fan but I'm surprised that I haven't been won over by any of the ones that are on the Xbox360. Is Lost Odyssey good then?

The only reason I ever get irritated about not having a PS3 is because of Ratchet and Clank and Blake's Fortune. It's not fair!

I'm deseprate to get Broken Sword for the DS but it's strangely expensive. Grrr.

Ah, games, games, games...

Over the years I had:

A Commodore +4
An Atari XL (which no-one else has ever had, ever)
Amiga 500 (with 1meg upgrade!)
Gameboy
Playstation
PS2
Wii
PS3

I've yet to play a single game on the PS3 - at the moment it's engaged solely as a blu-ray player, but all that will change when Ghostbusters is out in June.

I've still got loads of games to work through on the PS2, and brilliantly you can pick up most anything for that 2nd hand for £2/3 now, so I intend to go on a spree this summer.

The Amiga still works, and if I can find a new joystick on ebay I will be away on that at some point. I've got a PC emulator for it but it's not quite the same using keyboard control on Speedball 2.

One of these days I will play through American McGee's Alice on the PC, which has been on my shelf since 2002.

I also desperately want a DS (or DSi) because all the cool little games are on there (Foster's Home, Foster's Home!)
