Video Games

A Hat in Time is extremely cute, creative, and full of life. It runs horribly on the Switch though. The loading times and framerate are extremely bad. The game doesn't have particularly high visual fidelity. What's making it stutter so bad?

It's honestly the game. It's optimization is terrible and was for a while on other consoles I believe. I remember when I got my copy on PC and it ran...terribly on my PC which was perfectly fine at the time.

I had forgotten about the game too dd, but apparently it finally has a release date. Let's go.

BioMutant — remember that? — gets a launch date for PS4, Xbox One (msn.com)

This is great news. Biomutant is a game that seemed interesting to me ever since it was first announced, but I was starting to doubt would ever actually come out. Great to see it finally getting a release date, I'm really looking forward to it.

Gonna post some stuff about the game because I could see plenty of people here being into it:

Biomutant is an open-world, post-apocalyptic Wung-Fu fable RPG, with unique martial art styled combat system allowing you to mix melee, shooting, and mutant ability action.

Key Features

  • A New Take on Third-Person Combat – The martial arts style combat system allows you maximum freedom of movement and agility while mixing shooting, melee, and powers from your mutations. Learning new Wung-Fu combat forms through progression and learning from masters you’ll meet, will constantly add to your choices and make sure combat never gets old.
  • Evolve Your Gameplay – You’ll be able to re-code your genetic structure to change the way you look and play. This will of course affect your attributes and in addition to this, exposure to bio-contamination in the world will lead to mutations like the Turtleform and Mucus Bubble, while exposure to radioactivity found in bunkers from the old world will affect your mind and unlock psi-mutations like telekinesis, levitation and more.
  • Next Level of Crafting – You are totally free when crafting weapons. Mix and match parts to create your own unique 1H or 2H slash and crush weapons. Revolvers, rifles and shotguns and add modifications like cork-screws and battery-powered chainsaw modules to bio-contaminated sludge vials adding to your combat arsenal. There are even characters you’ll meet that’ll craft cool stuff for you, like bionic wings, a jump-pack and even let you modify your Automaton – the scrap-toy sidekick!
  • Gear Up for Adventure – You are totally free when equipping your character. Not only when it comes to choosing weapons you created, but what type of gear you wear. Equip a gas-mask and an oxygen tank for exploring the Dead Zones, thermos-resistant clothes for venturing into cryonic areas or protective gear for taking on bio-contaminated creatures, the choice is up to you.
  • Survive in a Vibrant Open World – You are free to explore the world and what lies beneath its surface, by foot, mech, jet-ski, air-balloon or area unique mounts. Explore the dying wildland, the tunnels and bunker networks of the underworld, and find your way up the mountains or out in the archipelago. There are lots of discoveries to be made, mysteries to unravel, creatures to confront, and weird characters to meet in this vibrant and colorful world.
  • An Unusual Story with an Unusual End - Your actions play a major part in the unfolding of a story where End is coming to the New World. A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided, in need of someone strong enough to unite them or bring them all down… You are guided through the world by a Storyteller that narrates every step of your journey, but it’s your actions and choices that’ll decide how your story of survival ends.

Holy shit what a month. Do not sleep on Concrete Genie, it’s a beautiful game.

Oooo. I haven't played Control yet and I hear it's a good game so definitely excited for that. Destruction All Star is like just the kind of the game that I think would be fun but would never spend money on so that's great. I feel like PS+ gives a way a lot of driving type games though but i'll gladly take this one. Concrete Genie seems cute, i'll have to look more into it. Yay another pretty good month! Hope they're committed to continually step it up like this, especially when Xbox has Game Pass for them to combat.

I've put about 40 hours into Immortals Fenyx Rising and I'm having such a blast. It's heavily inspired by, though obviously nowhere near as good as, Breath of the Wild and I'd highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys a solid adventure game that you can play in short or longer bursts. It's been the perfect miserable January game.

That's a shame because the game is quite special. It would have nice for the technical aspects to be up to snuff.

I find the game to be hugely addicting. It's hard to predict what it'll throw at you next.

Today the demos for Balan Wonderland and Fenyx Immortals Rising appeared on the Switch eShop so I thought I’d give them a go.

Balan Wonderland looks exactly what Nights into Dreams would like if it was made today. That’s a very unique style that I quite like because I have good memories about the Nights game. The levels have this weird graphical effect where as you walk into the distance all the scenery sort of grows. It’s so odd and kind of makes me eyes go a bit funny. You get animal powers (one is called Pounding Piggy, or something, lol) and you collect jewels that you feed to these little chicks that follow you around. You collect eggs to get new chicks. They’re a bit chao like. And then there’s a like a bonus stage which is basically a QTE but plays out like the Nights games. It’s very janky but there’s things strange charm and I’m not hating playing it.

I got through the Fenyx demo too. It was alright. I hated the controls and the awkward combinations you had to press which I always forgot by the time it got to more advanced enemies. It is very Breath of the Wild, and maybe there’s a little more too the world than there was to Hyrule, but that polish isn’t there. The buttery smoothness of all the gameplay features isn’t there. I quite enjoyed how the story played out during the demo.
