Bloober Team are apparently working with Konami on a new Silent Hill which should be…interesting

I'm afraid that for them making a Silent Hill game sounds easy on paper, after all The Medium shamelessly takes too many elements of SH. But injecting new interesting ideas to the franchise or achieve the quality that, say Silent Hill 2 had, it's a very, very hard task.

Picked up Shin Megami Tensei Nocture HD Remaster today on a whim. I've seen a couple of trailers and I have a very vague memory of playing the original PS2 so I'm perched.

I'd also kill for a HD polish of Digital Devil Saga. I played the 1st game in the series and it was great!

God I miss that kind of mid-tier horror game that used to be all the rage. Fatal Frame, Forbidden Siren, Parasite Eve, Haunting Ground(?), Koudelka/Shadow Hearts…

Honestly Parasite Eve needs a relaunch for a whole new generation.

Speaking of horror games I’ve just finished a replay of Evil Within and forgot how even on normal difficulty how hard some of these bosses can be. Next up the second installment and I got that Blair Witch game for cheap and it doesn’t look atrocious so I’ll be playing it.

I also finally finished Valhalla and probably was too harsh on it at first, it got much better after that initial slog in Norway. I felt like the story overall was much shorter than Odyssey but the new gameplay of having to gain alliances with the different regions through England was really fun for me. I bought the season pass immediately upon finishing the main quest line.

DUDE! Siren: Blood Curse and Haunting Ground remain some of my favorite horror experiences ever! Blood Curse really gets overlooked in terms of it it’s monster and environmental designs, and they all hold up so well today. I would love to meet the development team and ask them all about their inspirations and stuff...the maggot shibito and shibito brains remain as some oof the most disturbing monster designs I’ve ever seen in a game.

While Haunting Ground definitely is kind of overall more of a patchy experience for me, especially towards the end, the section with Daniella the maid is what I personally consider to be the best pursuee/stalker horror section in a video game. Nemesis, Mr. X, and Jack are all amazing and of course iconic, but Daniella’s amazingly evil voice acting (that LAUGH!), her psychological issues with her self image, the poker scene, the glass scene...there’s something terrifying about a being so beautiful, so perfect...but so damaged inside. I don’t know who her voice actress is, but she did an AMAZING job. I hope someday Capcom remakes this game, as I think an updated version with some story tweaks or expansions would go over super well.

On an entirely unrelated note, I started Persona 5 Royal and I am OBSESSED. And I hate high school anime most of the time.

Speaking of horror, I'd like to recommend this Twitter account:

They're basically a community for indie horror developers, focusing on games developed in the style of PS1/N64-games. They've helped compile a digital demodisk with several horror games:

They're obviously not all good games per se, but they're often made with a lot of heart and nostalgia for us who grew up in the 90s.

The Siren games were so good and so underrated. It’s pretty much a forgotten franchise at this point when the success of something like Until Dawn proves there’s a market for mid-budget horror games.

Haunting Ground is a game that people have come back to a lot in recent years but was completely ignored when it was released.

Yes to all these iconic horror games. I guess development costs and gamer expectations kinda killed this tier and genre of game. Such a shame because it’s one of my favourites. Sadly newer ones in this vein like The Medium had me intrigued but ultimately did nothing for me.

I've played some Fire Emblem games (GBA ones and Fates) during my vacation. God, how I love the sound of level up in these games. Also restarted Project x Zone.

And somehow I kinda started digging mahjong in Yakuza, dddd. The gag of a season.

And lastly, I went back to Genshin Impact after playing for a bit at launch and now I'm stuck in it...
