Just weeks after Fossora dropped too, honestly, we're so into fungi right now.
The vibe is giving Silent Hill: f(atal Frame), which I can't say I mind. And it's apparently written by the guy behind all those loopy-ass When They Cry (Umineko/Higurashi etc.) animes, it's gonna get weird.

Need to get my thoughts out on the Silent Hill Transmission which will seem negative but I reckon the series ain't for me anymore. (I haven't played a horror game in years!)

I'm kinda getting Homecoming - Downpour era vibes. Farming out the franchise to loads of different, random, mostly Westerrn developers, sure? Have they not learnt from last time? Or it's kinda like 2012 again with Downpour/Book of Memories/HD Collection/Silent Hill Revelation which was not what I was hoping for. Sorta like they'll announce loads of different projects and see what sticks.

I was kinda envisioning we'd get SH2 Remake, Project Sakura as some sort of PTesque demo (which technically was announced) and SH5 developed by a big name Japanese developer. (But I guess that's what happens when we have like 2.5 years of rumours to go on). I assume Silent Hill F is the next mainline title?

My thoughts on the projects announced:

Silent Hill 2 Remake - don't think I will play this but will watch a playthrough on Youtube. Not keen on the look of the monsters and Pyramid Head (reminds me of Homecoming and the film) but that could change. Intrigued to see the voice/motion capture performances and the updated soundtrack. (Do we know who is playing James?) To be fair it would be hard to remake this and still capture the original feel. This didn't excite me like it should.

Silent Hill Townfall - Probably looks the most interesting and it's cool that it's developed by a Scottish team but we've not seen enough yet to know what sort of game it will be

Silent Hill Ascension - what is this? And that monster, nope! Not getting the SH vibes from this at all. I feel it's like when we saw the Western developers design their own monsters previously and it just didn't feel right.

Return to Silent Hill - Nice they got Christophe Gans back for this as the second film was god awful. But can't say I'm interested. Do we need an adaption of SH2 if we're getting a remake?

Silent Hill f - it certainly looks quite high quality but no idea what to think of this. I maybe need to see more but as the last announcement of the show it didn't get me hyped.

Glad to see Silent Hill making a comeback.

I kind of wish they did a remake of the first, since there is so much to unpack lore wise (plus having to actually play both harry and cybil which was the original Plan, would have been cool) but Silent Hill 2 is excellent, so I am not complaining, I wonder how and if they'll expand the story.

The movie... I don't really have a lot of hope, while the first Silent Hill movie definitely nailed the atmosphere in the first two half of the movie, and I appreciated having the motherhood aspect being more prominent, the plot was a mess and the ending a fanservice mess, I get that making a movie off a videogame is not really an easy task, but still... of all the things they could have done.

I gagged when I saw his name and I have to say that my interest went up by 150%.........going from making games with characters drawn in the style of "I just saw some video tutorials on how to draw manga" to high class ultra computer-generated perverse decay visuals to tell his stories...Ryukishi07 you will always be famous!!!

Man, Silent Hill stans are annoying. I’ve seen a lot of thinkpieces on “remake bad” and how it’s “not my Silent Hill 2”.

The series has been dead for over a decade and the original Silent Hill 2 isn’t “erased from history”, man shut the fuck up.

I dont get it. Personally im very happy that we get so many projects coming up and honestly starting it all up with a remake of one of the most beloved games in the series is the best idea they could've come up with. Start with nostalgia trip and then strike with new stuff. Honestly the SH2 trailer looks really good. I dont get whats the problem.

I've been playing Monster Sanctuary these last few days. It's a bit bland visually and the story/world building is pretty weak, but the mix of genres is really interesting. A combination of metroidvania, monster collecting, and deep team building that feels a bit reminiscent of roguelike games in the sense that it's all about how the monsters' various abilities and passives combo off each other. It's not perfect but I'm enjoying it a lot, the combat/team building is really great, and using your monsters' various abilities to explore the world is very fun.

I've been too depleted by work and depression to play video games that often, but this fall break I've been working my way through Sword and Fairy: Together Forever. So much of it is average and the technical problems never don't stare you straight in the face, but there's something about the game that just compels me. The story is only kind of interesting (bad localization does not help), but the aesthetic is so drop dead gorgeous and envelops you. The combat is a little laggy but it's still gorgeous to look at and is genuinely fun. Boss fights are your typical obvious pattern type of bosses but they're a highlight for sure. They have fabulous designs and have a setpeice quality to them.

If you really liked the combat and customization of Trials of Mana, you might not like this as much because it's not as deep or responsive. If you liked the combat and customization of Trials of Mana but thought the story and aesthetic were underachieving, you might like this better because it does two things better while still having fun combat. If you thought Trials of Mana was straight up boring, I'm not sure this will keep your attention either despite having more variety in terms of dungeon and town designs.

I compare the two because it's exactly the same kind of simple no frills action RPG as Trials of Mana is, with multiple "switch on the fly" party members. Sword and Fairy has way more attacks and spells you can use but it doesn't feel as refined. I'm more of a whole package type of gamer than someone who values ultra tight gameplay, so I think I prefer Sword and Fairy. It feels more "modern but with an old school sensibility" whereas Trials of Mana feels old school in almost every way save for the quality of life enhancements.

I got it on my Steam Deck. I only played it like once so far. It's like... decent. But Vampire Survivors and Disney Dreamlight Valley have been eating up more of my time and attention. Monster Sanctuary was like Metroidvania, Pokemon, with the looks of Terrarria. I needed SOMETHING to feel a little more original about it but it just doesn't have enough that i've seen yet.

I’ve been playing Persona 3 Portable recently and despite having cleared Persona 5. Royal last year, portable holds up quite well for me. Characters are great, I love the option of a female protagonist, and although I think I’m not even halfway finished (Shinjiro just joined), something about this game feels much darker than 5. Like something under the surface feels really off.

I also love the juxtaposition of the female MC’s happy music on the map and in battle with your characters having to shoot themselves in the head to use their Persona.

also possibly controversial opinion, but I think I might like the music in portable better than 5. This hip hop/pop fusion it has going on is amazing, and Way of Life (the world map theme) is my favorite song from the series. Dont get me wrong fives music is amazing but there’s something so nostalgic and fascinating about portables music.

P3 has the best music from the entire series. The way Shoji Meguro had a grip on my entire soul from 2007 to....well still now if I'm being honest. Want to be Close, Changing Seasons, Memories of You, Soul Phrase, Afternoon Break, Brand New Days, Heartful Cry, Time, and Wiping All Out still have such a hold on me to this day.

So I'm anxiously awaiting tomorrow to go back to my mom's so I can continue playing my Xbox for the day. (Christ I'm 30 and it's come to this.)

I started Beacon Pines and I just got to the part where it started getting creepy and I'm so excited to see how fucked up it gets. It looks so cutesy but sis when the mayor tells you Rolo is back safe at home......... look at that face. I have so much doubt.

But I particularly wanted to ask if anyone here has played a game called Chinatown Detective Agency. It was also on Game Pass on Xbox. The trailer blew me away. It looks like Carmen Sandiego for adults. Booking flights all over the world, taking cases, there's some numpad that's constantly in the UI, there's puzzles, character interactions where every step has the potential to cause fuckups, it's got that "I kinda look like I'm out of 2002 but you can tell I'm not" look. Basically right up my alley and something I haven't encountered in more than 10 years.

I'm also going to see if Black Desert is worth a damn to give myself a new MMORPG addiction. (Again, Xbox Game Pass.)

If you haven't played Citizen Sleeper on Game Pass I highly recommend

I'd say the monster/team building is the most original thing about it, it's quite different any other monster collecting game I've played. I do think the game takes a bit to click though, when you don't have access to a lot of monsters and they're still low level it did feel a bit plain.
