Speaking of disc drives, is anyone else's disc drive on their PS5 Slim acting... weird? I bought my console a couple months ago and sometimes the disc drive doesn't eject the disc until I hit it again the second time. It doesn't happen a lot but enough for me to notice it dd.

My mom, who loves to watch me play Final Fantasy but does not game in any capacity, came over while I was playing Tales of Arise and it was an interesting experience. At first, she thought it was corny compared to Final Fantasy and she didn't like the skits, but when the story started ramping up, she was captivated, saying stuff like, "Oh my God!" or "I couldn't handle the pressure!"

She was talking about the part where Zephyr's son is shot down by Rinwell and the scene after that where Alphen, Shione, and Rinwell are talking about it while sniping at each other.

She also thought the environment was beautiful ("I would like to get this background on a poster!") and her favorite character was Rinwell, especially because of her "cute haircut." She said that Hootle hangs around Rinwell because she's the best character.

I think that she didn't really get that mild corniness is kind of a part of the appeal of Tales. She just doesn't have enough experience with JRPGs to know that it's a common aesthetic.

I was sad when Zephyr got captured. He was my favorite character and I wanted him to permanently join the party. I love the wise dude trope.

Anyone here played Fantasy Life on 3DS? I almost bought it years ago but in the end never did and im curious what you guys think about it. The Switch one looks quite fun and im quite eager to get it this time. This site has some cool art and many details

Some of the building and crafting mechanics reminds me of Animal Crossing.

I'd love to see my mom play Tales of Arise, but she would probably get killed by a single armadillo. She has a hard time following video game combat.

Not me somehow snatching one of the 30th anniversary PS5 Pro bundles this morning without even trying fff. I don’t even know if I want it

Thankfully I don’t get charged until it ships

Did anyone preorder the PS5 pro? I was so hyped for it until the reveal and now I feel nothing, no fomo, nothing. This would normally have been a no brainier for me as well.
I'm in a weird situation with it. I'm against the price, the lack of disc drive and stand, and I'm also very happy with my phat disc drive PS5. However, I'd also be lying if I said I wasn't having a bit of FOMO (and I do like the pro design). However, I was able to get over my FOMO with the PS4 Pro (which was much cheaper) so I'm sure I can manage just fine with my base PS5 as well once the launch "hype" goes down.

Can anyone recommend me a new game to play on PS5

I like - TLOU1+2, GTAs, Red Dead, Alan Wake, Spiderman, Stray. Love an open world, kinda like a strategy, love a good story.
Couldn't finish - Fallout

Feel like shit. I just want to go home and play Tales of Arise.

Loving it almost as much as Berseria, but a few gripes:

-That DLC scammery is not it. It's so clear that they hiked up the price of items and are stingy with SP points to try and coerce players into buying their stupid DLC. I don't know that I'll factor this into my review because it's more about Namco-Bandai than the quality of the game, but it's an ugly practice.
-Enemy variety is pretty lacking and areas seem a bit small, though I think this is a result of the game looking so pretty. Something had to give, so I'm pretty forgiving about these flaws.
-Sidequests are generic, though I'm doing them because they pay. I'm fine with the simple tasks, but they need to put more story meat on the bones of the sidequests.

But the gripping story, good characters, wonderful combat, and gorgeous visuals make up for most of these downsides.

I definitely don't agree with the first point, I think the game's balanced just right in that regard, I never felt like I needed or was being led to buy any currency either here or in any other Tales games. Those things do exist but I feel they're just for people who basically want to bypass any challenge and sail through the game. Through the story the exp/money gain felt just right and in the end game if you want to power up for the optional bosses and whatnot it doesn't take much effort either. I agree re enemy variety though, as you said it's not a major issue but the game could have done with a few more enemy types. And there are definitely some meatier side quests later on, I think the strikes a good balance between the more involved side quests and the more bite-sized ones.

I'll take your word for it that the balancing works out re money since you've finished the game. It just seems weird that once they introduced that kind of DLC, suddenly items are expensive as hell (they weren't in previous Tales games). 500 for an apple gel is excessive.

While the lack of enemy variety is a bit disappointing, especially compared to Berseria, which had tons of different enemy types, I do think it was a tradeoff to make the game look as beautiful as it does, so I'm ultimately okay with it. Would rather have the gorgeous graphics than more enemies.

Good to hear that the sidequests improve. I feel very compelled to do them because I get really nervous in JRPGs when I don't have money. Like in real life!

Final Fantasy XVI also has a similar sidequest issue. Half of them are like some of deepest, most emotionally disarming sidequests I've ever seen and then the other half is straight up menial trash.

I did every. single. sidequest. in hopes of getting a trophy. I did not get one.

I didn't bother with the DLC stuff until post game and grinding for a certain fight and never noticed any issue with money or things being that expensive. Especially when stuff can be farmed from enemies to either horde or sell.
