Vocal ripper/separator?

Discussion in 'Pop & Justice' started by poploz, Sep 17, 2007.

  1. Basically, I was just wondering if there is any program to rip vocals from an mp3 - something relatively simple if possible.

I was planning to turn my live mp3s of Sugababes 3.0 singing old tracks into pseudo-studio versions.

  2. Can't be done I'm afraid. There are some plugins that will extract the centre channel in the hope that that represents the bulk of the vocals, but they a) generally don't work, and b) sound pretty shit when they do.

All the instruments/vocals are mixed together - you can't unmix them.

  3. Thanks for answering, gazbo.

I was just wondering, since it would be a handy tool, and since people can make 'karaoke versions', thought it might be possible.
