  1. Whitney Houston Hologram Concert to Come to Las Vegas in October

Whitney Houston’s estate has announced that “An Evening With Whitney: The Whitney Houston Hologram Concert,” a new residency at Harrah’s Las Vegas, will begin on Oct. 26.

The concert will feature the virtual image and voice of the late singer backed by a live four-piece band and background singers and dancers performing “all the hits,” according to a promotional video. This event has been in the works since at least 2019, when the estate first announced its partnership with publishing/management Primary Wave. Primary Wave acquired 50 percent of the estate’s assets, and the singer’s former manager and sister-in-law Pat Houston shared plans for a hologram tour, an album of unreleased tracks and a musical.

Despite questions about the ethics of using hologram technology to engage with the dead, Pat Houston has repeatedly shared confidence that Whitney would have appreciated the event. “In 2011, Whitney and I discussed her idea of an intimate, unplugged concert tour. It was a project we called ‘Whitney Unplugged’ or ‘An Evening with Whitney,'” she said via press release. “While Whitney’s no longer with us, her voice and legacy will live on with us forever. ‘An Evening with Whitney’ is another chance for us to relive and celebrate the talent that we were so lucky to receive for more than three decades and we’re excited to bring this cutting-edge musical experience to the fans who supported the pop culture phenomenon that was Whitney Houston, because they deserve nothing less.” Pat Houston is the executor of the singer’s estate.

The project is a collaboration between Houston’s estate and Base Hologram, whose CEO Brian Becker added in the statement, “It’s an honor to be able to help add to her legacy with this project and present her incomparable talent in a way that will resonate with longtime fans and new generations alike. If you were lucky to see Whitney perform live, this is an opportunity to see her again. If you weren’t so lucky, this is the closest you may ever get to experiencing what it was like.”

Tickets for “An Evening With Whitney: The Whitney Houston Hologram Concert” will go on sale Friday, July 23 at 10 a.m. PT via TicketMaster.

  2. I saw that hologram “performing” on a TV show a couple of years ago. It was so, so much worse than I had ever imagined.

  3. I hate what her estate’s done with her legacy and I hope the hologram Vegas show bombs.

  4. I loathe Pat Houston. Whitney would have been appalled by this.

It's just a reminder of how great a job the Prince Estate is doing with Prince's catalogue.

Maybe Prince wouldn't have liked them releasing so much material, but I think it's only made people appreciate Prince that much more.

Everything is focused on his music, whereas, the Whitney estate has not. The hologram is just so tacky and Whitney was never tacky. Give us the 35th anniversary deluxe of "Whitney". Or make another documentary about Whitney, focused solely on the music. So tired of them bringing up her demons.

  5. You’ve said EVERYTHING exactly how I feel. What was WH thinking making Pat Houston the head of her legacy estate. The only hope we have is that she sold a percentage to a company to manage WHs legacy so maybe it will finally turn to her music. I get so mad thinking of the unreleased music that fans have been clamoring for and still nada.

  6. Holograms are just bottom of the barrel exploitation of someone who has passed. Just let them rest instead of trotting out a badly done digital imitation of their image. It does feel demonic like Prince said. They should have focused on celebrating her voice, her music and her legacy instead of making a fake version of her for a fucking Vegas show. It makes me uncomfortable.

  7. That whole hologram show is just plain wrong. When will it be finally be about Whitney's music legacy?

  8. Urrgh, this feels so exploitative. And so tasteless that even in death, they've still got her out performing to line everyone's pockets, just like she had to do with the 2010 tour when her own needs were considered less important than providing all the hangers-on in her family with a continued income.

The estate might have much less to work with in terms of unreleased music than Prince's estate, but still...

  13. Replace that with "It's Not Right, But It's Okay" like it should have been on the original CD.

  15. Glad it's not just me then!

  16. I imagine tho eventually we will get something. Pat sold a large percentage to a legacy manager. There is money in her catalog so I am sure unreleased materials will be soon.

  17. An album with unreleased material was promised from Pat like 2 years ago. And still waiting for the anniversary edition of “Whitney” as promised on the anniversary edition of the first album (when Whitney was still alive!).

  18. i remember not long after she unfortunately passed it was mentioned to do expanded editions of Whitney / The Bodyguard soundtrack. I am not counting that one they released as it didn’t include the original soundtrack plus new stuff.

I had hoped after the positive reaction to Higher Love that it would trigger more unreleased. I so want to hear Half Way Through The Night & Dont Look Any Further.

  19. An expanded Whitney is such a no brainer it's insane that it still hasn't happened. So many fans would snap up both a CD and vinyl version and yet still we wait...

  20. Yes, not getting my hopes up!
