Whitney Houston

Do we know when this was recorded? Her voice sounds different. Is it very early in her career?
I've seen a few people suggest that it's from the early 80s - it definitely sounds like young Whitney and she would have been 16/17 in 1980, so I believe it.

The song itself is really great too! It's funny to me that I'm not typically a worship music person, nor am I especially religious these days, but when you have a voice like Whitney's doing gospel it doesn't even matter.

The colour reissues are gorgeous - Whitney replicates the original’s inner sleeve whilst Whitney Houston has a new one with lyrics and the single art from the era. Each of them have a fold out with fan testimonies (less interesting) but a full 12" size extra photo from the era on the front. Really looking forward to the next 2 - I assume we’ll get I’m Your Baby on white and The Preachers Wife on a pastel yellow maybe. Guessing they’ll release My Love Is Your Love on its own as it is the most wanted of the reissues - I’d love a gorgeous deep indigo for that.

I saw the first hour of I Wanna Dance with Somebody. It's ok and I guess I admire that they addressed Whitney's bisexuality and drug use but it's such a lazy and superficial retelling of facts that even the most casual Whitney fan would know and the movie itself looks so uninspired and basic. It's not that I don't feel closer to Whitney and her inner workings, I don't even feel any excitement about her career and her music, the movie is completely flat.

Watched it at the weekend. It was OK - I believed Naomi as Whitney, the performance scenes showed her at her best, and I liked that Robyn wasn't pushed to the side.

There were some good scenes but overall it felt very rushed - and if you didn't know much about her life you'd be very confused. They didn't really dig very deep into her and Bobby's relationship, or the drug taking.

If it was fiction, you'd be wondering why their relationship broke down or why Whitney was so unhappy and why her career veered off course. It just didn't all make sense as a story.

Yeah, I watched the rest today and it still felt like a catalogue of moments in Whitney's life. The end was poignant though and it filled me with sadness at what a generational talent she was and how early we lost her. I will say though, while Naomi did a great job, she didn't give Whitney. Those few shots of the actual Whitney during the credits were revelatory, she really was incredibly magnetic and powerful, you couldn't help but stare at her. It kind of was the best part of the film. God I miss her.

Am I right in thinking that the gospel CD isn’t getting a UK release? It doesn’t seem to be listed in any of the main retailers in the UK and Ireland.

Anyone know what the deal is with the Mobile Fidelity Whitney reissue? I pre-ordered months ago and have yet to even find a release date for it which is super weird.

Didn't know there was a dvd coming out...
