Wicked

The way people ride for Idina when there have been dozens of better Elphaba’s who have sang and acted it better across the world since… ihavetolaugh.gif

Kristin’s Glinda is near enough untouchable though. There’s been interpretations that matched her vocally but even fewer that can couple that with excellent characterisation/acting as well. Her original casting for the role was as close to perfect as it gets really.

I just hope they don’t go too obvious now with the rest of the casting.

OK but literally no-one connected to the film in any way has suggested it, can we not enjoy one thing without centring...that in the discussion?

I think the point is that nobody suggested or mentioned it before, yet he just seems to be gifted a role in everything. I'd like to enjoy this one thing...once I know he's not in it.
But there's literally nothing to suggest he will be in it, beyond an internet full of people with no actual say in the matter going "oh no what if JAMES CORDEN is in it" thus making him the centre of the discussion. Your problem here is one you have created for yourself.

Also, everyone might have a point if we had a string of films to look back on and say "how amazing that film would have been if they hadn't cast James Corden" when the reality is...well, I'll let you look for yourself.

I'm allowed to say I don't want James Corden in it aren't I? I was commenting on the fact that he was trending as soon as the cast list got announced. So clearly, hundreds of thousands of other people also had similar thoughts. I didn't suggest that he was actually linked to the movie, but at this stage, you can never rule him out unfortunately.

As an aside, it's not simply the fact that he seems to appear in (too) many things. For me, he's utterly unlikable, smug and arrogant. The stories of his off-camera reputation, by both colleagues and fans, are also plentiful.

Not sure this is entirely sure, I saw over a month ago a rumour going round on Twitter that he had been cast. This must have originated from somewhere. I really hope its not true.

All rumours originate from somewhere. Whether it's somewhere credible or not remains to be seen.

And the reference earlier to the stuff about his reputation and general smugness as if I don't know any of this stuff or actually want him to be in it...give me strength.

Yeah, James Corden seems to only star in big budget* musicals these days, so it makes sense that his name would come up in the discussion.

*I respect that this is generous with Cinderella

Who suggested you didn't know that? I gave it as one of the reasons I personally don't like him much. I'm just not really sure why you've taken such an attitude with posts that aren't even remotely problematic.

If you also don't want him in it, what exactly is the issue with other people talking about the fact that his name was out there and we hope he's not actually involved?

I've never read the book but I've listened to original cast recording an unholy amount of times (first broadway show I fell in love with) and watched recordings of the musical and it's such a perfect, concise little thing. How will they even split it?

I'm getting Hobbit vibes from this. Padding it out with useless fluff. Granted I've not read the book but I still don't see how there is enough for two whole (likely 2 hour) movies?

They're very obviously going to add at least one new song (possibly more) to go after those sweet streaming numbers from Ariana's fans and, of course, the Oscar.

Even so, this story could easily be told in under three hours.
