Wicked

Not sure what I find more obnoxious: the posts I've seen online of people being insistent on nO spOiLeRs for a film adaptation of a 21-year-old musical adaptation of a 29-year-old spinoff book from an 85-year-old film adaptation of a 124-year-old story, or the people seemingly filming the entire fucking thing in 4K while at the theater. Need to go find a cloud to yell at or something

Not me bursting into tears at the end of this. Mama the catharsis. And I do not like musicals.
I cried several times! Think I felt every emotion during its runtime.

My dad took me to the West End show in 2009, and I’ve been hooked on musical theatre ever since. He passed away earlier this year, so finally getting to see this film—one I’ve been waiting a decade plus for, with characters and songs that mean so much to me—was particularly poignant.

Give them all of the awards. Got home from my screening 30 minutes ago and I’m far too exhilarated to sleep.

Gotta say I am hugely impressed by the promo team for this movie. Literally every shop I seem to go into has some sort of Wicked merch in it. Even supermarkets have Wicked themed food and drink. I feel like it's a bigger push than even Barbie had a few years ago?
It's the biggest ever - they've made deals with over 400 brands for products

Has the queer subtext always been there? Galinda was giving closet-case compulsory heterosexuality Good Luck Babe trad-wife vibes. Am I crazy?
It's always been the subtext but I think it was specifically on their minds while making this film, Ariana said Glinda is "a little bit in the closet", all the makers said this is a love story between the two leads and Jon Chu said Popular is when they fall in love.

Heading for a very impressive $21m+ Wednesday in the US despite the competition of Moana's $40m+ first day. The word of mouth is going give this such legs over the holiday season into January, especially with the singalong screenings coming into play. There's no way this doesn't end with $400m+ in the US.

Yeah, it’s always been there. Even in the novels, where Elphaba and Glinda go as far as sharing a kiss. I don’t think it’s an accident that the romantic tension bled over into the musical/film
