Did enjoy it, Gravity/Popular/What Is This Feeling/Dancing Through Life aside it did feel like there were a lot of 'half' songs, or (like throughout Gravity) bits that felt like little reprises/callbacks to songs that hadn't happened yet (the 'unlimited' and 'I hope you're happy' parts felt quite jarring to me). Might come together after seeing part 2.

Finally got to see this last night despite it not being officially out in France until next week. It was absolutely incredible, I loved it. I’ve never seen the stage show and only really knew Popular because of Ariana’s version, and I knew Defying Gravity so I had no idea about what the story would entail. I think that made me more giddy and excited.

The cinema was absolutely packed and people clapped throughout after the big numbers and surprises and at the end, I’ve never experienced anything like that at a cinema before. It made the whole thing feel more special.

Ariana is perfect, and I had no idea she had comedic timing like that. Cynthia was fantastic, I nearly cried at the Ozdust Ball and again at I’m Not That Girl, and she devoured The Wizard and I which made me feel early on like I was in safe hands for the rest of the film.

I’m obsessed with What Is This Feeling?

Thinking about Cynthia singing No Good Deed in Part 2..

I saw this movie on Tuesday with my mom, sister and a family friend who is obsessed with Wizard of Oz. I’ve never seen the musical, but I did partially read the book way back when - I might have been a sophomore in high school?

Anyway, I went in sort of blind on what to expect. Not a huge fan of musicals - although I do love Grease and Chicago (so pretty boring and vanilla) - but I was completely enamored by the onslaught of promotion. I mean the imagery is everywhere so I was influenced to see what the fuss was about and decided to go.

Y’all, I can’t stop thinking about the film. It was brilliant. Ariana and Cynthia were absolutely captivating and I can’t wait for Part 2. Hell, I can’t wait to watch Part 1 again! After reading multiple pages - I understand why everyone kept mentioning the Oz Dust Ball - I could feel the tears prickling my eyes. Beautiful.

Why is Cynthias dancing so bizarre at the Ozdust ball? Is it just meant to be like interpretive dance because it’s Oz? I hope Im making sense. Like is that just how they dance there?
I wanted to say 'to go viral' but without a song.. probably not.

(it did give me Wednesday dance scene though)

I noticed there are similar movements in the What Is This Feeling? choreography. I think it just adds to the surreal feeling of the setting and as @BTG said, Elphaba being an outsider. The world feels real and not real at the same time...idk hard to explain but The Substance's world had a similar feeling to its world even though there is no shared boob vomiting.

Yeah, Elphaba has never been to any sort of social gathering or dance, so she doesn’t really know how to dance. Also, she shows up expecting to be accepted only to get immediately laughed at, so her dancing to the silence in the middle of the room gives very “well if you’re gonna laugh at me let me give you something to laugh at”

That's how my mom took it - kind of a middle finger to the normies.

I viewed it as her being unashamedly herself, she has her own style and ways of expression. Her hands especially are given prominence throughout the dance, I suppose it's to show she is naturally strong and powerful even without the magic but also maybe she uses them as a shield?
