What else could have won, I mean really?! Yes, everyone, Mr Saxobeat has been crowned as the winner of the Inna vs. Alexandra Stan singles rate, with an advance of 0,500 from the runner up.
I remember watching behind the scenes footage of Alexandra shooting the video on a Romanian music TV station thinking that there's no way she managed a 2nd single deal after the messy Lollipop (Param Pam Pam) and that it'll probably end up as an irrelevant release on all levels and that she's of course #over. Wrong I was, as it has achieved the unimaginable for any Romanian popstar, coming in at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at #3 in the UK Singles Chart. Other than that, it went to #1 in 10 more countries and sold over 10 million copies worldwide in digital downloads and CD sales.
constantino (11): Can we take a moment to appreciate how this is a pioneer of the use of a horn-heavy instrumental hook in pop music?? Groundbreaking bop! Unlike the many imitations that followed, Alexandra actually comes through with a legitimate chorus as well, and it’s a good one at that. This is easily one of the best Europop songs ever.
Solenciennes (10): this remains a solid banger and Alexandra sells this to hell and back. Play it sweet!
Ghetto Princess (10): Always loved this. Great, catchy, singalong chorus.
Sprockrooster (7): Not a fan this and upped my score a tad, because I didnot want to troll this down. I first heard this in the winter as I was that summer/fall in Africa. And listening to this song first in the winter time killed this song for me.
iheartpoptarts (8.5): Has to be the biggest song in the entire rate, right? It’s iconic, of course, but I think both girls have done better!
CasuallyCrazed (10): This song is iconic for a reason. Every time this song comes on in a club I feel like a frisky romanian whore and I love every second of it..
DJHazey (10): The song that gave her fame and is probably the one song most people knew. I expect big things from it in our countdown, but it's always been the bridesmaid to ASAP for me. I learned about her through the two songs simultaneously, but I was always playing living fuck out of ASAP. It's for that reason that I often forget how massive Saxobeat is in its own right. Fast sing-along lyrics on a dancepop song are always going to own my heart quickly and this song has that quality tenfold.

Not exactly on the same level of success as the mighty winner, Lemonade was due to be the lead single from the 2nd MAAN album along with Cliche (Hush Hush) and All My People. The single was released in the summer of 2012 and reached top 40 positions in a handful of countries, most notably Japan and Italy (where it even went Gold). I could talk a million years about how amazing this pop track is, but it seems like my fellow contributors did a way better job...
Thought the Lemonade monologue was impressive? Take it away, DJHazey (10)...
If Get Back didn't exist I reckon my 11 would end up here. (I know I'm predictable
@GhettoPrincess). For the rest of my life, whenever somebody asks for a summertime anthem this will always be one of the first songs I point them to. It has the sound so perfected that it's fucking ridiculous. Queen can make me lemonade any time but I don't think I'll be paying much attention to the drink no matter how
thirsty I am. Oh wait, I_CANNOT_USE_REAL_WORDS_PROPERLY_. Two words in this song are a pop triumph and they are "I'm solo". That simple phrase puts the song into overdrive and ignites such a boptastic chorus for the ages. It's no surprise that she always has me mesmerized in the video, especially at the 1:52 mark when she bats her eyelashes like that. My heart does somersaults. It's gives off this "I'm innocent" vibe which is such a kii when you consider the detectives in the video (one being her asshole manager) are leftover from the Mr. Saxobeat video story when she broke out of jail. (You're a bad girl and you know it.) Okay enough DJStraightzey talk or I'll make everyone run for the hills! But wait there's more. I_CANNOT_USE_REAL_WORDS_PROPERLY_. Two parts of this song had me singing the wrong lyrics at first and I wanted to share them. First, I always heard "happy rhythm music, no money"...okay yeah kind of boring, but here's the real funny one. The first couple of times I listened to it I heard "I'm solo, and now I really wanna make you cuuum". I don't hear that way anymore, but figured I'd pass it along anyway (which likely just ruined the song for someone)
Sprockrooster (7): What a fantastic chorus. Those lyrics are sassy. Post-chorus and middle-8 breakdown drags it a bit.
lalaclairi_ (10): The chorus is so good, the production is A+, such a good pop song. Definitely a highlight.
Solenciennes (8): Alexandra's vocal affectations are a double edged sword that sometimes really work on a track and sometimes ruin it. On Lemonade, however, they work quite well and I think this is quite uniquely Alexandra's song and in anyone else's hands it would be impossible to raise above generic, but Alexandra's accent spins this into something quite pleasant.
constantino (10): Pool-side JAM! I’m living for this laid-back Caribbean-via-Eastern-Europe vibe that I’m getting. Beyonce really couldn’t let her have this, could she?
iheartpoptarts (10):
Beyoncé wishes.

And on that note, needless to say that Alexandra will be seeing a certain popstar in court...

That's it, you guys! I'm sorry for any glitches throughout the rate, it's just that I've been/I am super busy with Uni activities and I barely have time to check PJ, but it's better late than never! I'll add the rest of the rank on the main post in the coming days, but I hope you guys enjoyed it! I'm honored to have introduced you to some of your new favourite songs and I hope I gave you the opportunity to discover a new side of pop with a hint of insipid lyrics and a touch of saxobeats. Cheers, everyone!
