Women of the 90s | Countdown | Winner Revealed ["It should win the Best Video Award"]

While she didn’t find a spot in my top 40, Billie Myers will always have a spot in my Hall of Fame.

However, that’s not because of anything that she herself did.

My understanding of pop history is that another version of “Kiss The Rain” led to one of the biggest musical comebacks of the 20th century (citation not needed because I know I am right and will absolutely fight you for it).

You see, somebody heard

and thought they would be the perfect choice to do

which led to half a decade of high quality club mixes for anyone who was anyone.

Thank you Billie Myers, you walked so the rest of us could run...onto the dancefloor to get our lives for many years.

If I ever had a TED Talk, this would be its topic.

I had never heard this! It works well, even if the "angst" of the original is lost a little bit...and amazing that it inspired other remixes! I wonder if I can get it played in the remix slot at my local nitespot...

Kiss The Rain - 5. This was more of a re-discovery then a discovery. I knew it when it came out, but was maybe too young to understand it properly. I've heard it a few times since, and grown to really like it, but listening to it for the rate raised it up in my consciousness. It helped that it was raining heavily, and I could imagine going out and doing exactly what the lyrics told me to do. Now I love it. I can see that some wouldn't like the tone of Billie's voice, but she can definitely sing, puts a lot of emotion into her performance, and makes you feel her fear and frustration.

How Do I Live is very pretty. Definitely interesting that the two versions were very popular at the same time. I saw Leann a few years in concert and she sounded even better on the song. A bit crazy she was only around 15 when she recorded it.

This Kiss should have done much better!

Fixed that for you.

'You Were Meant For Me' reminds me of having chicken pox... during my first year of uni. Just before my first lot of exams, too. Ddd.

Why? Because it was on heavy rotation on radio during the week I spent in bed with the 'pox... using my (cassette) Walkman for entertainment, mostly listening to the radio with it.

I'm half alive but I feel mostly dead

summed up my predicament perfectly.

It was certainly audacious for the Con Air soundtrack team to be like “no, LeAnn is too young to be singing this, so let’s give it to someone else to sing... and release it AT THE SAME TIME.”

Trisha’s version was either never released as a single or was pulled from sale (I can’t remember which) because the label wanted to goose sales of Trisha’s greatest hits, which had just been released with How Do I Live as a new track. That’s a big part of why Trisha’s version didn’t have the same chart success as LeAnn’s.

I've never heard this remix before, amazing! I love a poppers o'clock remix and would have hammered this back in the day had it been on the UK CD single. Thunderpuss were so good at what they did (but more on that much, much later hopefully).
