WWE

I cancelled my subscription after WrestleMania, the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth from a health perspective, nothing on the show was worth the health risk involved and seeing Charlotte go over Rhea and in the process half the momentum of the entire NXT’s woman’s division just made me feel sad. (Which isn’t a problem with Charlotte, more how she is presented and pushed)

I’m happy to see the Iiconics back in action and actually picking up wins and the raise of Asuka once again. Hopefully she isn’t shafted once again. I’ve watched Sonya Seville’s promo from Smackdown and she’s amazing, I hope they don’t drop the ball with her.

I just found out that one of my last remaining wrestling crushes Drew Gulak has been released hopefully he finds his feet somewhere else, he was a great talker, wrestler and damn he was delicious. At least he’s still on Instagram.

Sorry for the double post but Seth Rollins recruiting Austin Theory to his cult thing has the big homoerotic energy that will sustain a generation of lil gay boys watching wrestling right now.

Remember when Asuka vs Sasha happened on the Raw after the first women’s Rumble and they had no time to plan it but Sasha still went full Joshi and they had an incredible match? I‘m buzzing to see what they can do in a match with some real stakes and time.

Io is potentially the best pure wrestler currently signed to WWE So I have no doubt she and Sasha can do something special tonight. I’m almost tempted to re sign up for the Network to support the summer of Sasha but I can’t support the company outside of watching YouTube highlights.

Sasha brings out the absolute best in her opponents, her character work is next level and she’s actually getting the time to build a compelling story with Bayley which I’d really love to see build all the way to Mania. . . Because that match deserves an audience.

Sasha is definitely my favourite thing about wrestling at the moment, and Bayley is up there too. They’re killing every segment that they get, the slow build of their rivalry is great.

Also this video package was fucking fantastic and I’m salivating at a possible feud video package for them further down the line:

This is incredible, the subtle Sasha look to the camera as she says ‘I’ve never seen anyone as good as Bayley’. Fuck take my money.

Obviously one has to turn face for the feud, and right now I have no idea who it should be. On the one hand Sasha is a natural heel and the prospect of her incorporating the Bayley buddies into a her entrance could be amazing. Bayley as a heel is so fresh, does she revert back to the hugger? What would face Bayley look like after this heel run? I guess there is some fun drama with her ‘finding herself’ again. . . Can we just get a great heel/heel fued?

Ding Dong Hello is probably one of the best catchphrases in wrestling right now, I crack up every time Bayley says it.

Both of them are so funny and so at ease on the mic now, it’s clear they’ve been given a lot of freedom and had a lot of trust placed in them, and with the absence of Becky and Charlotte it seems the company is fully investing in them as the stars that they are.

I change my mind weekly on who I think they’ll turn to make the feud work, but maybe that’s intentional on their part. I’m loving everything they do, even the little things like Sasha wearing Bayley’s SD title around her waist this week.

Also the NXT women’s roster is so stacked, it’s exciting to be a fan. I am in love with Raquel Gonzalez, she’s got star written all over her. Even Aliyah is finding her groove now and improving as a character and a wrestler.

So WWE is still a trash company. Especially in regards to the allegations/proof of Velveteen Dream’s misconduct and it shows the industry is rotten to the core. Not just Vince.

That said, the slow build towards Sasha and Bayley continues to be one of the best things in wrestling. I feel like we now have our clear face/heel dynamic too as Sasha was willing to take the hit for Bayley, but Bayley couldn’t do the same for her.

I’m not sure how, but if we can keep this for Wrestlemania I’ll be eternally great full. Have them lose the tag titles and then Bayley shafts Sasha to Raw or NXT. Establish Sasha as a fighter, re connect with her submissions and do a slow build face turn then give her the rumble win as Bayley continues to dominate on Smackdown so that Sasha can challenge again then let the main event night 1 of mania.

. . . But they’ll probably burn through the storyline by TLC.

Asuka, Mandy, Sonya, Io and Dakota all put great shifts in this weekend too! Finn Balor remains gorgeous, but I really struggle to care about any of the men’s storylines right now. Especially as Alexa was built up for weeks to play a huge part in the main event and she didn’t even appear on the show.

I’m really sad about Renee Young leaving, she was so likeable and really stood out in many of the roles she was given. Especially considering the female interviewers were seen as so interchangeable before. Talking Smack was her baby and was must watch every week because of her and also how the talents used it to get over. Her letter to WWE was a lovely read and you can tell she loved working there and had major respect for the business in general:

The Sasha and Bayley slow build has been fabulous, and their matches with Asuka have been stellar. All 3 have been the highlight since the start of the year and have ran with every opportunity thrown their way.

Also the Sonya stalker thing sounded terrifying. I hope her and Mandy are doing okay, I’ve no idea how they wrestled that match on Sunday after that ordeal.

Aside from the Royal Rumble, Raw has been trash recently (well since October) and Smackdown has been better but it still has some confusing and odd booking for the women in general. But I’m so excited for Sasha vs Bianca at Mania despite the weird build so far.

And in some long overdue news, it was announced today that Molly Holly is getting inducted into the Hall of Fame! She absolutely deserves it and I’m so pleased for her.

Molly looks absolutely stunning, I’ve loved hearing stories about her on various podcasts and especially Beth Phoenix’s Hall of Fame speech that really celebrated her for being an absolute class act. A well deserved and overdue induction.

I hate that we’re in an era where Sasha Banks and Bianca BelAir are headlining wrestle mania and I can’t find the energy to watch the YouTube clips of Raw or Smackdown. I occasionally read recaps to keep up to date but the shows just feel tired right now. Maybe I can’t ignore that thrn WWE is just an awful company that I can’t support anymore?

That said I’m still into NXT, which seems to be losing a bit of magic but the overall quality of the show is good. Johnny, Candice, Austin and Indy are a frequent highlight as well as the entire women’s division.

As a Sasha stan, this was extremely satisfying and emotional. She genuinely is the GOAT. Just an excellent match, and despite the horrific build, they delivered. When they both teared up and got emotional as soon as the bell rang, I lost it.

Sasha channeling Shego with her gear/look, the match’s story, the suicide dive into the bench press back into the ring, the sound of that hair whip (it cut Sasha open!!!), I was living. They should be very proud.

Gotta give props to Nattie letting Tamina have her WM moment, that was so sweet. But the match wasn’t great sadly.

Seth and Cesaro killed it too, I was beyond happy for Cesaro! Totally deserved!

Bad Bunny was impressive, he really came through and served us the Kelly Kelly/Divas moveset.

Sasha absolutely delivered, I’d love for her to have a triumphant wrestle mania moment, but she made Bianca a star.

I’m still done with the WWE, especially today as they’ve unceremoniously fired Billie Kaye, the single funniest woman on the roster. They could have made built a show around her, I hope AEW realises she’s a star and give her what she deserves. I’m not looking forward to seeing who else gets the chop today.

(Mickie James getting fired is also a travesty)

Samoa Joe going is a bit surprising, if he can still go there's money there.

Bo Dallas, finally! Good for him though, paid to not wrestle for 3 years.

She might have requested her release? To be honest I can't see her going to AEW, Mickey James, possibly...

I feel so gutted for these girls. Billie while not as solid in the ring as she used to be, was easily one of the character highlights of SmackDown male or female every time she was on camera. She’s just naturally so funny! Poor Peyton too, despite all the rumours of a singles push on the horizon, it just never materialised.

Chelsea just couldn’t catch a break between injuries. It always felt like they were trying to keep her away from signing with AEW. And Mickie was never presented as the legend that she is since returning after facing Asuka. Such a shame, and a real missed opportunity.
