X Factor 2009

JLS have done extremely well for themselves on Epic; one wonders if they'd got the same kind of launch on Syco if their option had been picked up in the beginning? I suspect their success has started a precedent that has continued with Jedward's transference from Syco management over to Louis Walsh.

I've been incredibly impressed by the way JLS have been handled. They seem to have got everything right with them and made them more popular than they ever were during the show itself. I mean, they were popular, but there wasn't that much buzz about them beyond the show.

Now they are massive with the kids, popular with the tabloids and celeb mags, and are all over the radio getting admiration from the likes of Jo Whiley and Chris Moyles who would normally be making sniffy noises at the first hint of a boy band. It maybe helped that there wasn't huge buzz while they were on the show, so their people knew they had to graft and had a little bit more freedom to create the right image. Most importantly they had the right songs, but it's been more than that.

If Simon had been in charge he might have got them some decent songs, but he (Syco) would have been lazy with the promotion, and tried to ride the wave of their existing popularity, safe in the knowledge that if that ran out of steam after a few months he'd have a new person to sign soon enough.

If Simon had signed JLS their first single would probably have been "I'm Already There" and an album of covers of RnB tracks that are pretty unknown in the UK (for e.g. "Back at One", "All My Life" etc).

I'm surprised he's not gotten Westlife to cover Nick Backstreet Boy's "Help Me" 2002 solo single. Which I tragically bought at the time, I was quite enamoured by it for a few weeks.

ANYWAY>

I've wondered why X Factor has still not released a compilation album for Xmas yet. How about Disc One is all the winners singles (minus the retconned Brooksteain obviously) plus the big singles from all the runner up acts; and Disc Two being the most memorable live performances over the years (Ruth's final "Always", Jedwards "Oops I Did It Again"....) and even a third DVD with all the memroable performances plus a few of the guest performances.

It's a guaranteed cash-in that mystifies me why Simon's not licensed it yet.

I still find it baffling we don't get the studio versions of all the contestants performances on iTunes every week like they do for American Idol.

Would anybody have wanted any from last year's lot though?
Personally, no. But I'm sure they'd be some kind of demand for it.

Joe McElderry's Don't Stop Believing would have done phenomenal if released proper. In fact if that was his Xmas single instead of that shiteous Miley song, he might have gotten the No 1 no probs.

Having said that, I am eager to hear what Joe, Olly and Stacy albums....

Interesting note, Jamie Archer is playing in a club in Plymouth soon, and the ticket price is more than I have paid before for tickets to Sophie Ellis-Bextor and The Saturdays, and more than I would have paid for Selena Gomez had Polydor not given me the tickets.

Somehow I don't think he'll be able to sustain charging those prices for long.
